The SCAN (Stop Child Abuse & Neglect) Team works with elementary schools throughout the greater Miami Valley to provide engaging, age-appropriate child sexual abuse prevention education using our own curriculum, I Can Tell . We are seeking energetic, mission-driven educators who are passionate about children, comfortable speaking in front of groups, and capable of engaging classrooms ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade. This is not a traditional teaching position. Our educators travel to schools and deliver high-energy, interactive presentations throughout the school day. A typical day may involve presenting the same lesson 5-6 times to different groups of students. The work is meaningful, challenging, and incredibly important. Position Overview Salaried position equivalent to $20/hour Maximum workweek: two weekdays, plus every other Friday School-year presentations (August-May) Summer hours retained through training, planning, and program support work Mileage reimbursement provided for school travel Travel throughout the region may occasionally include drives exceeding one hour What You'll Do Deliver engaging child sexual abuse prevention presentations to elementary students Adapt communication style and presentation techniques for different age groups Manage classroom behavior while maintaining a positive learning environment Respond appropriately to student disclosures and mandated reporting responsibilities Participate in ongoing training, team meetings, and curriculum support activities Training & Support New educators receive extensive paid training.
Training includes:
Curriculum instruction on SCAN's I Can Tell program Observation and shadowing Support during the transition into independent classroom presentations Ongoing coaching and professional development What Makes Someone Successful in This Role? The strongest educators on our team are: Comfortable speaking in front of groups Naturally engaging and enthusiastic communicators Confident managing classroom behavior Passionate about child safety and prevention education Adaptable, resilient, and emotionally mature Dependable and committed to showing up for students Comfortable discussing sensitive topics in an age-appropriate manner Able to maintain energy and enthusiasm throughout multiple presentations in a day Team-oriented while also working independently Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Experience working directly with groups of children in educational, childcare, recreation, or youth-serving settings Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Willingness to travel to schools throughout the region Ability to become a mandated reporter and follow child protection procedures Preferred Backgrounds We particularly encourage applications from individuals with experience such as: Classroom teachers Preschool or childcare educators YMCA or after-school program staff Camp educators and youth program leaders Arts, music, recreation, or enrichment instructors Child-serving nonprofit professionals Before You Apply This role is deeply rewarding, but it is not easy.
