Job Description

Position Overview The Director of Youth and Young Adult Engagement provides relational, spiritual, and organizational leadership for Jesse Lee's ministry with students in grades 6-12, with limited opportunities for college-age young adults as interest and resources permit. The Director will create a consistent, welcoming environment where young people feel known, supported, connected, and encouraged in their Christian faith. This is a visible, hands-on role centered on direct engagement with students and families. Key Responsibilities Build meaningful relationships with students and serve as a consistent, trusted adult while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Lead a dependable schedule of youth programming, including a primary weekly youth gathering and additional recurring after-school, small-group, service, fellowship, and other engagement opportunities. Maintain a visible presence on the church campus at least three weekdays per week and develop structured after-school opportunities such as homework help, Bible study, conversation, recreation, mentoring, and fellowship. Help students explore and strengthen their Christian faith through discussion, Bible study, prayer, service, and participation in church life. Communicate regularly with students, parents, volunteers, church staff, and leadership. Recruit, coordinate, and support adult volunteers and ensure compliance with Safe Sanctuaries and child-protection policies. Plan activities, maintain appropriate program records, and regularly assess and adjust programming based on participation and student needs. Assess interest in college-age ministry and develop limited gatherings, mentoring, communication, or service opportunities without reducing the primary focus on grades 6-12. A Week in the Life A typical week may include campus availability, after-school programming, the primary youth gathering, small-group or community activities, communication with students and families, volunteer coordination, planning, staff meetings, and Sunday worship or youth programming. The Director must be comfortable moving between individual conversations, small groups, and larger activities while maintaining a consistent and dependable ministry presence. Qualifications Demonstrated Christian faith and commitment to Christian values. Experience working with middle-school or high-school students. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and group-leadership skills. Reliability, initiative, sound judgment, discretion, and appropriate professional boundaries. Willingness to complete required background checks and child-safety training. Preferred Experience Three or more years of experience in youth ministry, education, mentoring, counseling, recreation, social work, or a related field is preferred. Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers and familiarity with United Methodist beliefs and practices are also preferred.
