Ronald McDonald House New England provides a comprehensive and supportive network of resources to children and their families through Ronald McDonald Houses, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles. Together, we can build greater capacity to serve children facing all pediatric illnesses at Boston's and Rhode Island's hospitals and other medical facilities throughout New England.
Position Summary:
The Family Support & Social Work Navigator is a social work-focused position centered on providing one-to-one psychosocial support, resource navigation, advocacy, and relationship-based services to families throughout their stay at Ronald McDonald House New England. The primary focus of this role is understanding each family's individual circumstances, identifying strengths and needs, providing compassionate and trauma-informed support, and helping families navigate the emotional, practical, financial, and social challenges that may accompany having a child receiving medical care. The Family Support & Social Work Navigator develops meaningful relationships with families through regular outreach, individualized meetings, ongoing assessment of needs, advocacy, and connection to appropriate hospital, community, and organizational resources. The position works closely with hospital and care team members, community organizations, and House staff to promote continuity of support and ensure families feel connected and supported throughout their stay. This position also contributes to the daily operations of the House. While operational responsibilities are an important part of maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, the core of this role is direct family support, psychosocial care, case management, and resource navigation.

Director Of Family Services Key Responsibilities The Family Support & House Navigator provides proactive, relationship-based support to families throughout their stay.
- Provide individualized, compassionate, and trauma-informed support to families experiencing the stress and uncertainty associated with a child's medical journey.
- Support families in navigating challenges related to finances, transportation, housing, employment, childcare, food access, insurance, hospital systems, and other social determinants of health.
- Document significant family interactions, identified needs, referrals, and follow-up in accordance with organizational expectations.
- Coordinate and distribute family communications, including welcome materials, House updates, calendars, and informational resources.
- Support daily House operations by assisting with guest check-ins and check-outs, conducting House walkthroughs, monitoring supplies, reporting maintenance needs, and completing incident documentation.
- Monitor the overall family experience by gathering feedback, identifying trends, and recommending improvements to programs and services.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with hospital social workers, Child Life Specialists, and community partners to ensure coordinated support for families.
- Participate in emergency response procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and family-centered environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and daily operations of Ronald McDonald House New England. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field required; MSW preferred.
- Bilingual candidate preferred
- Experience providing psychosocial support in healthcare, crisis, or family-service settings.
- Strong skills in trauma-informed communication and crisis response.
- Ability to balance emotional support responsibilities with hands-on operational tasks.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and databases.
- Availability for rotating evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to move and operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. The employee must be able to move up to 30 pounds. Employee must be comfortable communicating in a variety of written and verbal settings including (but not limited to) answering phones, public speaking, facilitating meetings, making cold calls, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Working Conditions, Compensation, & Benefits:
The hourly rate for this position is $28.00-32.00 based on experience. This is a part-time, non-exempt, position and offers PTO and 401K. The position is onsite and based in Providence, RI. It is an 'at will' employment position, which means that either Ronald McDonald House New England or the employee may terminate employment at any time, with or without cause or without notice.
