Job Description

POSITION

Parent/Family Literacy Coordinator

LOCATION

Lyman Elementary/River Ridge Elementary/Tyger River Elementary

QUALIFICATIONS

60 hours of college courses (required)

Degree (BS, BA) preferred

Teaching Certificate (preferred)

Experience in Social Work (preferred )

REPORTS TO

Building Administrator

JOB GOALS

Plan and implement lessons in the home to focus on improved child readiness to enter school; to provide a model for positive interactions as a parent within the lessons provided; to identify needs and work with the parent to locate resources to assist

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

190 days

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and conducts parent groups and activities for young children and their parents

Provides home visits to families utilizing an approved parenting curriculum

Conducts family assessments as required

Assists families in locating needed resources in the community

Collects and inputs data into the approved data collection system

Participates in training opportunities and scheduled team meetings

Promotes parent participation and involvement in educational activities provided for their children

Participates in family recruitment strategies

Assists in programmatic planning and evaluation as needed

Communicates with parents to keep them aware of their children's needs and learning activities

Maintains the code of preschool ethics and privacy for parents

Assist with preparing information packets for new families

Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrators

WORKING CONDITIONS

Office and field environments with limited exposure to environmental and weather conditions of heat, cold, noise, dust, wetness, etc. Physical demands are restricted to field activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to fifty pounds. Routine local travel required; requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines.
