Job Description

Spartanburg Day School is actively seeking staff members to join our Extended Day team. This position will start in January after winter break. The typical hours for the position are M-F 2:30-6 p.m. (some flexibility available, as needed). Members of our Extended Day team create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children during the afternoon program. This position involves supervising activities and providing care for children in the Preschool and Lower School division, ensuring they are actively engaged and supported in a positive, structured environment.

Key responsibilities are:

Manage Classrooms:
Oversee and manage Preschool or Lower School Extended Day classrooms while interacting with students, parents, and faculty to ensure a positive, productive atmosphere.
Supervise Activities:
Supervise children during homework time, outdoor playtime, and structured activities, ensuring safety and engagement.
Attendance and Record-Keeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance records for all students.
Clean-Up Supervision:
Supervise and assist children in cleaning up after activities, fostering a sense of responsibility and teamwork.
Support Snack Time:
Assist students during snack time, ensuring children are supported in making healthy choices and practicing good table manners.
Promote Positive Interactions:
Exhibit patience and professionalism when interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
Ensure Safety and Wellbeing:
Follow established safety protocols and emergency procedures, ensuring the well-being of all students at all times.
Qualifications:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with children and create a positive, nurturing environment. Patience and flexibility in managing different age groups and personalities. Previous experience in child care or a similar environment is preferred, but not required. Dependable, punctual, and positive attitude.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED, required Prior experience working with children, required Teaching Certificate, preferred All SDS faculty must successfully pass a background check upon hire and periodically during employment.
