Sumter County School District Special Services Coordinator Title:

Special Services Coordinator

Description:

To utilize leadership and administrative skills to provide Sumter School District with appropriate specialized services to students with disabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree or higher in Special Education or related area

South Carolina certification in Educational Administration

South Carolina certification in Special Education Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a special education teacher

Experience in special education policies, and the development of individualized education plans (IEPs)

REPORTS TO

Executive Director Student Support Services

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides guidance, leadership and professional development for special education teachers in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans.

Serves as a member of the Special Education Leadership team in order to analyze data, assist in the development of policies and procedures, and determine the professional development needs related to special services for the district.

Works collaboratively with the Executive Director of Student Support Services and Human Resources in the recruitment and retention of special education teachers.

Serves on the district team for teacher support and evaluation for Special Education teachers.

Participates in special education meetings, to ensure compliance with state and federal policies, when needed.

Coordinates with district, community, and state stakeholders in order to assure that students with disabilities exit high school with a high school diploma, high school credential or appropriate post secondary placement.

Conducts Special Services Lead Teacher meetings regularly to provide guidance on policies and procedures.

Works collaboratively with district personnel (e.g. counselors, psychologists, behavior specialists) in order to provide appropriate academic and behavior supports to maintain positive learning environments for students with disabilities.

Works collaboratively with instructional staff (teachers, coaches and coordinators) to provide professional development in specially designed instruction for students with disabilities.

Works collaboratively with the Executive Director of Student Support Services in order to provide guidance to district and school administrators to maintain compliance with Federal, State and local mandates for students with disabilities.

Provide guidance to high school teams on student transitions, curriculmn and federal mandates.

Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive, and other related duties may be required to meet the ongoing needs of the school district.
