Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of SIL, the Life Skills Coordinator will provide mentoring, guidance, and support for young adults ages 18
•21 who are working towards independence.
SCHEDULE
The Life Skills Coordinator's hours will be Monday
•Friday 10a
•7p with a 1 hr lunch. The position may require some additional flexibility to work other times and shifts as needed and/or as directed by the administration. Additional hours may be needed for training, campus activities or other job-related activities.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Transportation:
Provide transportation to work, school, and other related life skills training appointments or activities. Provide assistance to young adults when ready to purchase their own vehicle. 2. Provide young adults guidance on the following, but not limited to: Making medical, dental, psychiatric and therapeutic appointments. Medication management
•teaching them how to schedule their medications, refill, etc. Good personal hygiene. How to make a grocery list, and prepare and serve nutritious meals. Personal finances
•open and manage a bank account, and make a budget. Job-seeking skills including interviewing, resume writing and networking. 3. Provide young adults with steps involved in educational attainment such as vocational school or college; 4. Create a written individual goals plan for each young adult, monitoring their progress, and regularly updating the plan, providing guidance and support with each step; 5. Create and maintain a network of resources to help young adults access community programs they may need such as for housing, utilities, employment opportunities, scholarships, transportation, medical and other necessities. 6. Ensure that the young adults keep the house orderly and that they maintain good relations with the other participants living in the home. 7. Maintain records and documentation as required by state regulations, health standards, and ACH expectations 8. Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of cottages that includes the inside and outside areas in compliance with state minimum standards, health standards, and supervisor's expectations so that a positive image is always presented. 9. Demonstrate professionalism, including the following: Know and follow policies of Amarillo Children's Home and other directives implemented by administration. Cooperate with other staff, school officials, young adult's relatives, other agencies' staff and other related professionals. Know and follow state contract and minimum standards as prescribed by the Department of Family & Protective Services. Know and follow the rights of young adults in care as prescribed by the Department of Family & Protective Services. Adhere to the reporting requirements for young adults that have been abused, neglected and exploited. Adhere to confidentiality policies related to protection of young adults and staff information. Maintain professional boundaries with young adults and other team members and youth of Amarillo Children's Home. Maintain good work and personal ethics in dealing with co-workers and children in care. Does not engage in activities other than official business during work hours. Adhere to Amarillo Children's Home's policies related to protecting agency property and reporting requirements. 10. Demonstrate competency, prudent judgment, and self-control in the presence of young adults and when performing assigned responsibilities. 11. Attend mandatory training as prescribed for the position and as directed by administrative staff; attend staffing and/or other treatment team meetings when applicable. 12. Successfully complete mandatory training related to all program models. 13. Perform any related duties as directed by SIL Supervisor, or Director of Programs.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Ability to communicate effectively with young adults, staff, families, caseworkers, probation officers, medical personnel, support agencies, vendors, community members, donors, board members and other professionals. Ability to read and write in English. Bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling. Ability to operate small household appliances and equipment. Ability to perform CPR and First Aid.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED
•required. Completion of college coursework in social work, education, youth behavioral sciences, child development or a related field is preferred. Experience working with youth is preferred. Valid Driver's License and a good driving record. A minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth of any age is preferred. Demonstrate a desire and ability to teach young adults. Ability to model appropriate behaviors, morals and the judgment required to work with a large number of young adults in a responsible manner. Must be willing to support the mission of ACH and the "ACH Statement of Faith," a copy of which can be found on the ACH website at https://amarillochildrenshome.org/mission and is also available from ACH administrative staff on request. Per TDFPS Minimum Standards for General Residential Operations, Sec. 748.505, "Must be a physically, mentally and emotionally healthy adult with the knowledge, skills and ability to do the tasks in the job description, and have no health or behavioral issues that present a danger to children in care." Be able to read, write and communicate with others involved in the child-care process. Have no disqualifying criminal history and be willing to submit to a thorough criminal and background check that may include submitting to an FBI fingerprint check. Must submit to and pass a drug test. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

From $14.50 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
