Job Description

Wolverines Elevated is excited to hire enthusiastic, strengths-based Peer Mentors to begin during the fall semester and continue throughout the school year. Under the supervision of the Wolverines Elevated Program Director, Peer Mentors work with UVU students with intellectual disabilities and play a fundamental role in empowering students to become self-advocates and confident members of the campus community. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Meet with assigned students to review Canvas assignments, plan homework completion goals, and coordinate with campus resources as needed. Champion student success by identifying strategies for organization and time management, and model academic and social skills. Act as a co-problem solver, empower student self-advocacy, and connect students to campus resources. Promptly complete and maintain required documentation after all student meetings. Support students with their educational, vocational, and long-term goals. The leadership skills peer mentors gain through this position are transferable and integral in any field and include practice with active listening, team collaboration, documentation management, public speaking and advocacy, and experience working with a diverse population with an increased understanding of unique learning styles. Must be a current UVU student. Must be committed to supporting a diversity of student identities and experiences. Must be available for meetings with students and regular team meetings. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Display reliable and consistent follow-through with job responsibilities. Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Exemplify patience, understanding, and responsiveness in interactions. Demonstrate ability to take initiative through critical thinking and a solution-focused approach. Strong time management and organizational skills. Desire to learn alongside and with assigned peers. Past experience as a peer mentor or peer tutor. Education in Autism Studies, Special Education, English, Psychology, Social Work, Family Studies, or a related field. Knowledge of and experience using UVU campus resources. Basic knowledge of and experience using technology to support the success.
