POSITION OBJECTIVE
Conduct home visits for the purpose of gathering information and establishing positive effective relationships and provide liaison between the school and the parent(s) of at-risk students.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform casework service with individual students and families to assist in the amelioration of personal, social, or emotional problems related to their educational, social, or emotional progress.
  • Provide input as part of staff planning process in dealing with the "at-risk" child and family.
  • Assist in the formation of student groups and conduct group sessions in cooperation with staff to heighten learning potential and help students grow emotionally, academically, and socially.
  • Develop and maintain a community network system with community family agencies and provide families with information on resources and services available to them.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to and is supervised by the Special Education Supervisor.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State ESA certificate as a School Social Worker.
KNOWLEDGE
(position requirements at entry):
  • Knowledge of social services resources in the community.
  • Knowledge of child development theory and its implications for teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of intellectual and emotional needs of students.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, family systems, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual and physical abuse, attention deficit disorder, and crisis intervention. SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents, orally and in writing.
  • Ability and willingness to work with students and families of diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
  • Skill in negotiation, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. This position may be exposed to prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
$ 75,821 to $ 142,176 annual salary prorated based on FTE (based on the negotiated collective bargaining agreement salary schedule). Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and BEA bargaining agreement salary schedule. Placement on the schedule is determined by training and experience. Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon .45 FTE. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
