Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work (BSW or MSW) from an accredited program; licensure or certification as required by state regulations. Proven experience working within hospital settings, hospice care, nursing homes, or outpatient clinics with a focus on medical social work. Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for documentation purposes, and Medicare regulations. Strong knowledge of community resources including assisted living facilities, home health agencies, mental health services, and disability support programs. Experience working with diverse populations across cultural backgrounds; sensitivity to geriatrics, pediatrics, and individuals with disabilities. Proficiency in crisis management techniques such as crisis intervention and PTSD care strategies. Ability to perform patient assessments effectively while demonstrating excellent client communication skills. Knowledge of behavioral health therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and group therapy modalities. Basic life support (BLS) certification including CPR training; experience in end-of-life care and hospice & palliative medicine is preferred but not mandatory.
