Pregnant and parenting teenage moms in the foster care system are placed with us. These teen moms who have been abused, neglected, or trafficked for sex find a safe place to heal from their trauma, get back on the path to finish high school, and learn to be loving parents. We aim to break the cycle of poverty and abuse and show these teen moms they can live lives of dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency. As a Mental Health Counselor, you will provide mental health counseling, behavioral intervention, support, crisis intervention, and skill-building services to children and families with significant mental health needs. You will serve as a member of the program treatment team and provide services both at the STRTP and in the community as needed, including homes, schools, and other community settings. Meet with clients and caregivers several times a week to further treatment goals, including behavior management techniques as appropriate. Work with the treatment team to provide individualized services, including counseling and case management, to support client and family stability. Assist clients in navigating systems to access needed services. Advocate for clients' needs and preferences within the care team and other systems. Support clients in making positive behavioral changes, developing problem-solving skills, and setting healthy boundaries. Be an active member of the Child and Family Team. Provide on-call coverage to clients and their families. Maintain close communication with all treatment team members. Participate in treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and IEP meetings when necessary. Assist with planning and providing transportation for school, therapy appointments, court hearings, and other program needs as required. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, clinical forms, time sheets, and mileage. Participate in weekly supervision with the program supervisor or designee. Maintain professional behavior at all times and appropriately represent the agency's mission and philosophy. Perform other duties assigned by the program supervisor or Clinical Director/Head of Service. Qualifications and Experience Must meet the qualifications of a Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist (MHRS) pursuant to Title 9, California Code of Regulations, Section 630.

Qualifying education and experience:

BA/BS in a related field plus four (4) years of experience in a mental health setting as a specialist in physical restoration, social adjustment, or vocational adjustment; or an AA degree in a related field plus two (2) years of post-associate clinical experience and the required mental health experience. Up to two (2) years of graduate professional education may substitute for required mental health experience on a year-for-year basis. Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written. Adept at working with diverse populations and demonstrating cultural competency, emotional intelligence, and situational adaptability. Demonstrated strength in collaboration, empathy, resilience, situational adaptability, and valuing differences across diverse populations. Able to engage with and build trust with diverse populations. Excellent at managing complexity, exercising sound judgment, and demonstrating proactivity. Must have the availability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required to meet client and program needs, although such hours may not be part of the employee's regular schedule. Able to respond to crisis situations and participate in a rotating emergency pager/on-call system. Able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion. High accountability and self-management. Must successfully complete required fingerprint/background clearances. Must have access to a reliable vehicle and maintain a valid California driver's license and required automobile insurance. Spanish fluency preferred.
