POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified or Registered Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor is responsible for delivering direct services to individuals receiving outpatient substance use disorder (SUD) Medication Assisted Treatment in our Narcotic Treatment Program (NTP). This includes conducting screenings and assessments, managing a caseload, facilitating individual and group counseling, and creating individualized treatment plans in accordance with state and program requirements. The counselor works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure whole-person care, address barriers to recovery, and support successful discharge planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Counseling & Treatment Planning Maintain a caseload and ensure weekly services are provided to meet the needs of the individuals served. Provide individual, group, and family counseling using evidence-based practices aligned with medical necessity. Conduct ASAM level-of-care assessments and determine appropriate treatment placement. Develop, review, and update individualized treatment and discharge plans in collaboration with clients and clinical supervisors. Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups focused on recovery, relapse prevention, trauma, and life skills. Provide case management and resource navigation, including referrals to mental health, medical, housing, employment, and social support services. Team Collaboration & Communication Participate in regular case conferences, clinical supervision, and team meetings. Maintain effective communication with supervisors, support staff, and external service providers. Document all client services and communications accurately and promptly within the electronic health record (EHR). Serve as a liaison between clients and external agencies (e.g., HealthCare Providers, Child Welfare Services, courts, probation, etc.). Support a positive team culture and uphold professional standards in all interactions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Registered or certified in good standing with a DHCS-approved California SUD counselor certifying organization (e.g., CCAPP, CADTP, CAADE) prior to employment. Excellent communication and facilitation skills. Strong documentation and organizational skills. Culturally responsive and committed to serving diverse populations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong professional boundaries and ethical standards required. Associate's degree or higher in a behavioral health-related field preferred. Prior experience in SUD and/or mental health treatment settings preferred. Knowledge in evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, CBT, Trauma-Informed Care, and Psychoeducation preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must pass a background check, drug screen, and contract and state credentialing standards at start and throughout employment. Must comply with SRTP's drug-free workplace, professional conduct, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
