The Opportunity We are seeking a Substance Use Counselor who is passionate about recovery-oriented care and skilled in supporting individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health needs. In this role, you will provide direct counseling services, facilitate therapeutic groups, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to help clients build insight, stability, and hope. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who values structure, teamwork, and meaningful clinical work in a residential treatment setting. • Provide grounded and transformative therapeutic experiences that help clients rebuild agency, resilience, and hope.
• Guide clients through assessment, treatment and care coordination plans with clarity, expertise and compassion.
• Maintain a therapeutic caseload and support clients through all phases of treatment.
• Provide evidence based substance use counseling, group process, education that support client participation and growth. Care Coordination & Collaboration
• Participate and interdisciplinary team meetings, support rich clinical consult spaces, and a team that solves problems together.
• Collaborate closely with Medical, Nursing, Case Management, and Operations to ensure integrated care, safety and outcomes.
• Communicate effectively with families, referral sources, and external partners when appropriate. Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain high standards of documentation and clinical integrity that meets DHCS, Joint Commission, and organizational standards.
• Ensure timely, accurate progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and incident reporting.
• Maintain compliance with scope of practice, ethical guidelines, and confidentiality requirements. Milieu & Safety Support
• Help maintain a safe, structured, trauma-informed recovery treatment environment where clients and staff feel safe, supported, and grounded.

• Certificate as a Substance Use Counselor in CA
• Associate's Degree in Substance Use counseling
• Master's degree in counseling (preferred)
• 1 year minimum experience working in residential, inpatient, or structured mental health and substance use treatment settings
• Competence in evidence-based modalities such as MI, CBT, DBT, or trauma- informed care.
• Strong documentation skills and familiarity with regulatory environments.
• Ability to remain grounded, collaborative, and client-centered in fast-paced or emergent situations.

Pay:

$32.00 - $41.00 per hour Application Question(s): Are you available to work on Fridays and Saturdays during typical business hours?
