Mental Health Counselor
Simpson College

Open Date Jun 25, 2026 Description Summary Provide direct mental health clinical services to students, provide outreach programming, and professional training to the Simpson College community on a variety of mental health issues. It will also provide consultations to faculty and staff regarding college student mental health. In partnership with the Center for Academic Resources, this position will play a role in supporting students who experience executive functioning challenges by promoting strategies to enhance organization, time management, self-regulation, and academic success. This is a full-time, 10-month exempt position. Essential Job Functions The functions listed are essential to the position; however, this is not a complete list of all responsibilities. Provide counseling and mental health services to students and consultation to members of the Simpson community Assist students with building executive functioning skills and coping skills to navigate academic stressors Engage with students brought up through the college's early alert process Assist with department projects, such as outreach and education Maintain appropriate documentation of services provided
Qualifications Qualifications Master's degree in Social Work or in Mental Health Counseling
Licensed as an LISW or LMHC in the state of Iowa, or ability to obtain relevant provisional License (LMSW/t-LMHC) within 3 months of start date.
Comprehensive knowledge of clinical theories, diagnoses, interventions, treatment planning and therapeutic outcomes.
Ability to demonstrate superior clinical and therapeutic skills and to foster positive therapeutic relationships with a diverse population of students.
Ability to manage a caseload of individual, couples, and group therapy clients Ability to document clinical interactions via Electronic Medical Record system Rich understanding of social, developmental, and psychological issues and challenges faced by diverse populations of students within a higher education setting. Maintain all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice for Social Workers or Mental Health Counselors (as relevant to credentials) in the state of Iowa
