Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a passionate and motivated Intern Therapist to join our dynamic mental health team. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical counseling, behavioral health, and patient care within a supportive environment. As an Intern Therapist, you will assist licensed clinicians in delivering evidence-based mental health and behavioral interventions, supporting diverse client populations across various settings. Your role will be integral to fostering positive therapeutic outcomes while developing your professional skills in a real-world context. Responsibilities Support licensed therapists in conducting client assessments, intake interviews, and diagnostic evaluations using DSM-5 criteria and ICD coding standards. Assist in delivering individual and group therapy sessions utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, and other evidence-based practices. Participate in crisis intervention and crisis management activities, ensuring client safety and appropriate follow-up procedures. Maintain accurate clinical documentation in electronic health records (EHR) and adhere to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality. Contribute to case management efforts by collecting data, tracking progress, and supporting treatment planning for clients with co-occurring disorders or substance use issues. Engage in research activities related to mental health treatment modalities, contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate home, community care, hospital-based services, and patient care plans tailored to individual needs. Requirements Currently enrolled in an accredited graduate program in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field with relevant coursework completed. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapy techniques such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and behavior management strategies. Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, substance use disorders, PTSD, or co-occurring conditions is preferred. Familiarity with clinical documentation standards, medical terminology, ICD/DSM coding systems, and electronic health record (EHR) management systems such as EMR/EHR platforms. Strong communication skills with the ability to conduct client assessments and provide empathetic client communication across diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to handle crisis situations effectively with crisis intervention skills and crisis management protocols. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate medical documentation and data collection.
