Flexible based on program and client needs Position Summary Peer Path is seeking a motivated Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate (LCAS-A) to provide in-person substance use disorder treatment services to adults with substance use and co-occurring behavioral health needs. The LCAS-A will provide clinically appropriate, person-centered, recovery-oriented services within the scope of the LCAS-A credential and under required clinical supervision. This position is ideal for a developing addictions professional who wants hands-on experience providing individual and group substance use treatment while strengthening skills in assessment, treatment planning, ASAM-informed care, relapse prevention, Motivational Interviewing, and clinical documentation. This is an on-site position. Services are provided in person at the designated Peer Path office and are not remote.
Essential Responsibilities The LCAS-A will:
Provide in-person substance use disorder counseling within the scope of the LCAS-A credential. Facilitate structured individual and group substance use treatment sessions. Provide services associated with outpatient substance use programming, including SAIOP and/or SACOT when assigned and when credentialing and service requirements are met. Participate in comprehensive clinical and substance use assessments as permitted by credential, supervision, payer, and service requirements. Utilize ASAM criteria and other appropriate clinical information to support treatment and level-of-care decisions. Participate in development and implementation of individualized treatment plans and measurable treatment goals. Utilize evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions appropriate for substance use disorders. Utilize Motivational Interviewing, relapse-prevention strategies, stages-of-change interventions, psychoeducation, and recovery-oriented approaches. Address triggers, cravings, high-risk situations, coping skills, relapse patterns, and barriers to sustained recovery. Provide education regarding substance use disorders, recovery, overdose prevention, harm reduction, and available community resources as appropriate. Recognize co-occurring mental health symptoms and coordinate with appropriate behavioral health professionals. Monitor client engagement, treatment progress, barriers, and continued service needs. Participate in treatment-team meetings, case consultation, and care coordination. Make appropriate recommendations for higher or lower levels of care when clinically indicated and within scope. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and client confidentiality. Complete progress notes, treatment-plan documentation, assessments, discharge documentation, and other assigned clinical records accurately and within required timeframes. Ensure documentation supports the service provided, medical necessity, client participation, progress, barriers, and continued treatment needs. Immediately communicate significant clinical, relapse, safety, or crisis concerns according to agency procedures.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must:
Hold a current North Carolina LCAS-A credential in good standing. Maintain all credentialing and supervision requirements associated with LCAS-A status. Practice within the scope of the LCAS-A credential and applicable supervision requirements. Be willing and able to provide services in person at the Peer Path office . Demonstrate knowledge of substance use disorders, addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and stages of change. Demonstrate an understanding of ASAM criteria and levels of care. Possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Be comfortable providing both individual and group services. Demonstrate the ability to maintain appropriate clinical boundaries. Be able to complete accurate electronic clinical documentation within required timeframes. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable professional and ethical standards. Successfully complete required credential verification, background screening, orientation, and onboarding requirements. Preferred Qualifications Preference may be given to candidates with experience in: SAIOP and/or SACOT. Substance use treatment groups. Medicaid-funded behavioral health services. ASAM assessments and level-of-care recommendations. Co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Motivational Interviewing. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions. Relapse Prevention. Harm Reduction. Trauma-informed care. Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) populations. Criminal justice and reentry populations. Electronic health record documentation. Clinical Supervision The LCAS-A must participate in and maintain clinical supervision as required by the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board and applicable professional standards . The contractor is responsible for maintaining an active credential and satisfying applicable supervision and credentialing requirements. Any supervision provided or arranged through Peer Path will be established separately and documented according to applicable requirements. Work Setting This is an in-office, on-site position. The LCAS-A must be available to report to the designated Peer Path office for scheduled services. Responsibilities may include scheduled individual counseling sessions, structured substance use groups, assessments, treatment planning, documentation, and treatment-team activities. This is not a remote or telehealth position unless Peer Path specifically authorizes otherwise for an eligible service. Contractor Expectations This position is structured as a 1099 independent-contractor opportunity . Available assignments and hours may vary according to program enrollment, referrals, payer authorization, client attendance, program schedules, and organizational needs. A specific number of weekly hours is not guaranteed. Contractors are expected to maintain reliable attendance, participate in required supervision, complete documentation within established timeframes, communicate promptly regarding client or program concerns, and comply with Peer Path's clinical and quality-assurance requirements. Ideal Candidate Peer Path is looking for an LCAS-A who is dependable, clinically curious, comfortable facilitating groups, receptive to supervision, and committed to high-quality substance use treatment . The ideal candidate understands that effective addictions treatment requires more than facilitating a discussion. Sessions should be structured, purposeful, clinically appropriate, connected to the individual's treatment goals, and supported by timely documentation.
