A Mental or Behavioral Health Counselor works with patients to treat mental health problems. Assesses patients and assists with diagnosis, counseling and crisis intervention. Consults with nurses, doctors and psychiatrists. May work with specific populations, such as youth, senior citizens or substance abusers, in group settings, facilities or hospitals.

The Substance Use Counselor Intern, balancing compliance with empathetic, therapeutic care, delivers life-changing clinical services to participants enrolled in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment programs within a correctional facility by promoting recovery, personal growth, and successful reintegration. helping individuals improve their health and wellness by providing high-quality integrated mental health, physical health, and substance use treatment, recovery support, and education.
Essential Responsibilities:
Guide SUD participants through assessments and designing personalized roadmaps to recovery. Facilitate powerful individual and group counseling sessions that foster personal growth. Coordinate vital case management to ensure smooth, successful reintegration into the community. Maintain high-standard documentation and uphold safety by aligning with Department of Corrections (DOC) regulations.
Qualifications:
Actively working towards NJ certification as an LCADC, LAC, LPC, LSW, LCSW, or CADC. Minimum of 2 years of experience providing substance use counseling or related behavioral health services.
Sobriety:
If recovering, must have at least two (2) years of sobriety and must maintain sobriety throughout employment.
Prefer:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or a related field .
