Position Overview CHAD is seeking a dedicated and engaging Prevention Counselor to join our school-based Prevention and Intervention team. The Prevention Counselor works primarily with students in Cayuga County schools to provide evidence-based and evidence-informed substance use prevention education, early intervention, individual support, and resource connection. This position works collaboratively with students, families, school personnel, community partners, and CHAD staff to strengthen protective factors, reduce risk factors, promote healthy decision-making, and address concerns related to substance use and other behavioral health needs. As part of CHAD's multidisciplinary team, the Prevention Counselor provides services consistent with New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) Prevention Guidelines, including universal, selective, and indicated prevention strategies, with appropriate documentation and supervisory oversight. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys working with adolescents, building relationships within schools, and helping young people develop the skills and supports needed to make healthy choices and succeed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Deliver OASAS-approved evidence-based and evidence-informed prevention programming in school and community settings. Provide prevention and early intervention counseling services to students in assigned Cayuga County schools. Build protective factors by helping youth strengthen decision-making, communication, peer refusal, coping, self-esteem, emotional regulation, problem-solving, and other healthy life skills. Address identified risk factors associated with substance use, including peer influences, family factors, academic concerns, behavioral health needs, and other challenges affecting youth. Implement prevention curricula with fidelity and make adaptations only when consistent with program and OASAS requirements. Develop positive, supportive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Meet with designated school personnel to coordinate referrals, identify students who may benefit from services, and support appropriate communication and continuity of care. Provide individual and/or group-based prevention and intervention services based upon student and school needs. Identify students who may require additional behavioral health, substance use, family, or community services and facilitate appropriate referrals and resource connections. Respond appropriately to student concerns or crisis situations and coordinate with school personnel, supervisors, families, and other professionals as required. Provide parents and caregivers with education regarding substance use risk factors, warning signs, prevention strategies, healthy communication, and available resources. Develop and deliver educational programs, workshops, presentations, and informational materials addressing substance use prevention, healthy decision-making, protective factors, and related behavioral health topics. Participate in school and community outreach activities, health fairs, tabling events, and other prevention initiatives. Collaborate with school personnel, community organizations, and other youth-serving professionals to strengthen prevention efforts and increase awareness of available resources. Complete timely and accurate documentation of all prevention and intervention activities. Enter required program and service information into applicable

reporting systems and complete agency and state reports in accordance with established requirements. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable agency, state, federal, and professional requirements. Participate in individual and team supervision, staff meetings, program planning, and quality-improvement activities. Maintain professional knowledge and skills through required OASAS and agency training, continuing education, and other professional-development opportunities. Perform additional duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services, education, public health, or a related field preferred. Preference for

CPS, CPP, CASAC-P, CACAC-T, CACAC

Experience working with adolescents, schools, prevention programs, behavioral health, substance use services, or community-based programs preferred. Knowledge of substance use prevention, adolescent development, behavioral health, and community resources is desirable. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage youth, families, school personnel, and community partners. Ability to facilitate classroom presentations, small groups, and individual student meetings. Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain timely and accurate documentation. Ability to work independently within assigned schools while remaining an active member of CHAD's Prevention and Intervention team. Comfortable working with diverse youth and families using a strengths-based, respectful, and nonjudgmental approach. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for travel to schools and community locations throughout Cayuga County. Ability to meet all applicable school, agency, and OASAS requirements for the position.
