2 Weeks Paid Vacation Competitive Benefits Program Employer pays 90% of health insurance premiums Employer covers 100% of the deductible through a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) Job Summary The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) is a critical member of the multidisciplinary team, specializing in understanding and treating the complexities of addiction. The CASAC collaborates with the treatment team to provide triage, screening, assessment, interventions, discharge planning, and follow-up services within 24-48 hours of client discharge. The Crisis Stabilization Center (CSC) is a 24/7/365 program serving individuals experiencing Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorder (MH/SUD) crises. The CSC provides immediate therapeutic support from peers and licensed behavioral health professionals while connecting individuals to community resources that support long-term recovery after discharge. Duties & Responsibilities Assist in the daily operations of the Crisis Stabilization Center (CSC) as part of a multidisciplinary team. Provide CASAC support and advocacy to clients of all ages from admission through discharge, including aftercare follow-up. Deliver recovery support services, including: Individual advocacy Empowerment Prevention and outreach Engagement Hospital diversion Information and referrals Self-help support Safety and crisis planning Relapse prevention planning Relaxation techniques Resource coordination Health and wellness coaching Coordinate and refer clients and families to community support services, including: Mental health services Substance use treatment Peer support Medical care Housing Financial assistance Legal resources Food and clothing assistance Maintain ongoing communication with community partners, medical and social service professionals, criminal justice personnel, and community organizations. Arrange transportation or teach clients how to access community transportation resources. Facilitate recovery-focused groups and therapeutic activities. Meet individually and in groups with clients, families, guardians, and support systems. Provide therapeutic interventions, including: Psychoeducation Crisis counseling De-escalation techniques Perform addiction-specific services within the CASAC scope of practice, including: Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Co-Occurring Disorder (COD) screenings SUD assessments Diagnostic impressions Level of Care determinations (LOCADTR) Treatment planning Case management Crisis intervention Client education Referrals Documentation and reporting Care coordination Support clients' families and natural support systems throughout treatment. When working with children and adolescents, provide family-centered support, including: Parenting skills development Family engagement Coaching Transition support Self-advocacy Community connections Assist clients with accessing community resources and developing recovery goals for both treatment and post-discharge. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete client documentation. Follow all OMH, OASAS, and agency policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Treat all clients with dignity, respect, and professionalism. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration. Maintain flexibility with scheduling as needed for staffing coverage. Attend required staff meetings and trainings. Work Allocation 90% - Daily Operations 10% - Other Duties as Assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) credential from
NYS OASAS
; current and active.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma/GED with three years of relevant experience/knowledge base of mental health and substance recovery.
  • Obtain the NYS Peer Specialist Certification within the 90-day orientation period.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record to drive agency vehicles as indicated.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries while working with clients.
  • Successfully complete all required background and reference checks.
  • Complete all state and agency required trainings within the 90-day orientation period; and annually, as required.

MHAST. KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of mental health and/or substance use issues facing individuals of all ages.
  • Support and advocate for individuals in crisis.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations, traumatic events, or sensitive circumstances.
  • Knowledge of community resources, services, and systems to assist in recovery/treatment of mental health and/or substance use.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to support a diverse client population (race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc.).
  • Ability to problem solve and use critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written).
  • Experience using an Electronic Health Record (HER) and documentation.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, etc.
).
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Short term residential crisis setting, office environment.
  • Some exposure to cleaners, chemicals is expected.
  • Physical requirements include walking, bending, standing, climbing stairs, and lifting (light/medium -up to 50 pounds).
  • May need to work a flexible schedule, depending on staffing needs.
