We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Counselor to join our team. Position Summary The Mental Health Counselor provides counseling and therapeutic services to individuals experiencing emotional, behavioral, psychological, and interpersonal difficulties. This position involves conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, providing evidence-based therapy, documenting clinical services, and coordinating care with healthcare providers and community resources. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to establish meaningful therapeutic relationships while promoting positive patient outcomes. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Assessment and Evaluation Conduct comprehensive intake assessments, psychosocial evaluations, and mental health screenings. Perform diagnostic evaluations utilizing DSM and ICD-10 criteria. Assess emotional, behavioral, social, and psychological functioning. Identify patient strengths, risk factors, diagnoses, and treatment needs. Evaluate for crisis situations, safety concerns, and risk of harm to self or others. Treatment Planning Develop individualized, measurable treatment plans in collaboration with patients and families. Establish therapeutic goals and objectives based on clinical assessments. Regularly review and update treatment plans to reflect patient progress and changing needs. Coordinate care with physicians, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, primary care providers, and other healthcare professionals. Counseling and Therapeutic Services Provide individual, family, couples, and group counseling services. Utilize evidence-based treatment modalities, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Solution-Focused Therapy Motivational Interviewing Trauma-Informed Care Psychodynamic Therapy Behavioral Therapy Techniques Assist patients in developing coping skills, improving relationships, managing symptoms, and achieving treatment goals. Provide treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, grief, PTSD, behavioral disorders, chronic pain, and substance use concerns. Crisis Intervention Assess and respond appropriately to psychiatric emergencies and crisis situations. Implement crisis intervention strategies and safety planning. Coordinate emergency services or higher levels of care when clinically indicated. Provide support during periods of acute psychological distress. Documentation and Compliance Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical documentation. Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other required documentation. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, ethical standards, and applicable state and federal regulations. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems effectively. Maintain accurate ICD-10 diagnostic coding and familiarity with CPT coding requirements for behavioral health services. Care Coordination and Referrals Collaborate with internal providers and external healthcare professionals. Coordinate care with psychiatrists, primary care providers, schools, community agencies, and support organizations. Connect patients with community resources, social services, and specialized treatment programs. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and case consultations. Patient Populations The ideal candidate will have experience working with: Children and adolescents Adults and older adults Individuals with anxiety and mood disorders Trauma and PTSD populations Individuals with developmental disabilities Autism spectrum disorders Individuals experiencing grief and loss Diverse cultural and socioeconomic populations Required Qualifications Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field. Current unrestricted state licensure as one of the following: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Other equivalent independent clinical license permitted by state regulations Minimum of one to two years of clinical experience preferred. Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Proficiency with electronic health record systems. Preferred Qualifications Experience in outpatient behavioral health settings. Experience with telehealth and virtual counseling platforms. Strong crisis intervention and risk assessment skills. Knowledge of ICD-10 diagnostic coding and behavioral health documentation. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders. Familiarity with psychopharmacology coordination and interdisciplinary care. Prior experience with case management and community resource coordination.
