A Mental or Behavioral Health Counselor works with patients to treat mental health problems. Assesses patients and assists with diagnosis, counseling and crisis intervention. Consults with nurses, doctors and psychiatrists. May work with specific populations, such as youth, senior citizens or substance abusers, in group settings, facilities or hospitals.
$25.72•$31.35 per hour (commensurate with experience; includes shift differentials and bilingual stipends) Role Summary Provide routine and emergency mental health assessments, diagnostic assessments, crisis intervention, stabilization, and Health Officer duties to expand crisis coverage and reduce wait times in Southern Lorain County. Southern Lorain County clinicians will operate full-time Monday through Friday to expand current crisis services with the goal of reducing wait times for the southern portion of the county (including but not limited to Oberlin, LaGrange, and Wellington). The position will consult with a Crisis Manager at the Main Riveon location and may report there occasionally for training, meetings, and coverage as necessary. The crisis services team responds in pairs for best practice and safety of staff and clients, a trained crisis assistant will be assigned to the team.
Perform mental health/pre-hospital assessments, diagnostic screenings, and 23-hour monitoring assessments. Develop client treatment plans within 24 hours.
Stabilization Unit & Group Work:
Lead group counseling sessions, manage medication room/self-medication protocols, and coordinate care on the residential stabilization unit.
Community & Partner Collaboration:
Perform local outreach (homes, schools, ERs, shelters), transport clients as needed, and serve as a designated Lorain County Health Officer.
Requirements & Qualifications Licensure:
Active Ohio LSW or LPC required (LISW/LPCC independent licensure preferred).
Experience:
2+ years in mental health preferred; strong knowledge of DSM-5, crisis techniques, and psychotropic medications.
Driver's License:
Valid Ohio driver's license (<6 points in 36 months), personal vehicle, and proof of adequate insurance.
Skills & Physical Capabilities:
Basic computer/EHR proficiency; ability to navigate varied weather/field conditions, lift up to 10 lbs, and physically intervene during emergencies to prevent harm.
Certifications:
Must maintain annual certification in CPR, First Aid, Physical Crisis Intervention, and Rape Crisis training.
Preferred:
English/Spanish bilingual capability.
