AOD Counselor Job Summary The Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor provides professional substance use disorder counseling services to individuals receiving treatment for alcohol and drug dependency, including co-occurring mental health disorders. The AOD Counselor is responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating individual and group counseling, maintaining clinical documentation, coordinating care with internal and external providers, and supporting clients throughout the recovery process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Complete screenings, intake assessments, and determine appropriate levels of care. Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans. Provide individual, group, and family counseling utilizing evidence-based practices. Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic group sessions. Monitor client progress and modify treatment interventions as clinically appropriate. Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record. Complete progress notes, treatment plan reviews, discharge summaries, and other required documentation within agency timelines. Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, case managers, probation officers, courts, child welfare agencies, and other community providers as appropriate. Assist clients with relapse prevention planning and recovery support services. Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary. Educate clients and families regarding addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and available community resources. Make referrals for medical, psychiatric, housing, vocational, and social services. Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings. Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with

HIPAA, 42 CFR

Part 2, and agency policies. Ensure compliance with Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS), Medicaid, CARF (if applicable), and agency standards. Participate in required supervision, staff meetings, and continuing education. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or higher Current Ohio credential as one of the following:

CDCA LCDC II LCDC III LICDC

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screening. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in substance use disorder treatment. Experience with co-occurring mental health disorders. Knowledge of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). Experience with electronic health record systems. CPR and First Aid certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong clinical interviewing and assessment skills. Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Understanding of ASAM Criteria and person-centered treatment planning. Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and relapse prevention techniques. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health record software.

From $19.50 per hour
