Family Peer Support Specialist - In-Home Services Position Summary A Family Peer Support Specialist is a parent or caregiver with lived experience navigating mental health, behavioral health, or substance use challenges within their own family. This unique perspective allows them to provide compassionate, practical support to families currently facing similar challenges. At Conscious Connections Youth Counseling (CCYC) , Family Peer Support Specialists use their personal recovery journey and experience to empower families, foster resilience, and promote hope. They serve as mentors and advocates, helping families build skills, access resources, and develop individualized recovery plans—all within the comfort of their home environment. Key Responsibilities (This list is not exhaustive and may be updated as needed.) Build Trusting Relationships Provide in-home support to families, creating a safe and welcoming environment. Engage with families in various settings, including homes, community spaces, and treatment facilities, to establish positive, supportive relationships. Offer emotional support and guidance during appointments or transitions. Support Recovery and Growth Collaborate with families to identify strengths and set personal recovery goals. Assist in developing and implementing individualized Family Recovery Plans. Participate in group sessions or family meetings to encourage progress and connection. Skill Building and Problem Solving Help families overcome barriers to independence and stability, such as budgeting, transportation, healthcare access, and benefit navigation. Model and teach practical coping strategies and life skills. Resource Connection Link families to community resources, programs, and supports that promote long-term wellness. Provide follow-up to ensure families remain connected and supported. Ethical Standards and Professionalism Adhere to CCYC's Code of Ethics for Certified Peer Support Specialists. Participate in at least two (2) clinical supervision sessions per month (minimum of 2 hours total). Maintain accurate documentation and safeguard client confidentiality in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Represent qualifications honestly and uphold professional boundaries. Commit to personal wellness and seek supervision when challenges arise. Qualifications Must meet Oregon Health Authority (OHA) Certified Peer Support Specialist Requirements , including: Completion of OHA application and submission to the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI). Passing a criminal history background check through OHA's Background Check Unit (BCU). Completion of an OHA-approved 40-hour Peer Support Specialist Training (PSST) for certification under the Traditional Health Worker (THW) program. Ideal Candidate Has personal experience as a parent or caregiver supporting a child or family member with mental health or substance use challenges. Demonstrates empathy, resilience, and strong communication skills. Is passionate about empowering families and promoting recovery in a home-based setting.
