Paid time off, medical, and dental Position Summary The Therapist provides comprehensive clinical services to adolescents receiving residential treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. This position is responsible for managing an assigned caseload and providing evidence-based, trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and family-centered treatment. Core responsibilities include clinical assessment, individualized treatment planning, individual and group therapy, family therapy and engagement, crisis intervention, case management, clinical documentation, and discharge planning. The Therapist works collaboratively with clinical, medical, psychiatric, nursing, residential, educational, and case management staff to provide coordinated treatment addressing each adolescent's substance use, mental health, behavioral, developmental, family, and recovery needs. Essential Responsibilities Clinical Services and Caseload Management Maintain an assigned caseload of adolescents receiving residential treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial, substance use, mental health, trauma, risk, and other required clinical assessments within established timeframes. Develop individualized, measurable, and developmentally appropriate treatment plans based on assessment findings, identified needs, strengths, risks, and treatment goals. Review and update treatment plans and clinical goals based on adolescent progress and continued clinical needs. Provide individual therapy consistent with each adolescent's treatment plan and level of care. Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups according to the program schedule and approved clinical curriculum. Provide family therapy, family education, and parent/guardian support when clinically appropriate and legally authorized. Utilize evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions appropriate for adolescents with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders. Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, case conferences, and clinical reviews. Coordinate care with medical, psychiatric, nursing, residential, educational, and other treatment team members. Family Integration and Case Management Engage parents, guardians, and other authorized supports as meaningful participants in the adolescent's treatment whenever clinically appropriate. Educate families regarding substance use disorders, mental health conditions, adolescent development, communication, boundaries, relapse prevention, safety planning, and continuing care. Identify family, educational, social, environmental, and community factors affecting treatment and recovery. Coordinate with schools, outpatient providers, referral sources, child welfare agencies, juvenile justice, and other authorized community providers when applicable. Begin discharge and continuing-care planning early in the treatment process. Facilitate referrals and transition planning for outpatient treatment, psychiatry, medication management, recovery supports, educational services, and other recommended services. Clinical Documentation Complete all required clinical documentation accurately and within established regulatory, payer, accreditation, and organizational timeframes. Maintain assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, group documentation, family-session notes, case management documentation, treatment plan reviews, discharge summaries, and continuing-care plans. Ensure documentation demonstrates medical necessity, treatment progress, interventions provided, response to treatment, and continued level-of-care needs. Participate in utilization review and provide clinical information necessary to support authorization and continued-stay determinations. Maintain clinical records consistent with professional, organizational, regulatory, and confidentiality requirements. Participate in chart audits and promptly correct identified documentation deficiencies. Crisis Management and Safety Assess and respond appropriately to suicidal ideation, self-harm, aggression, elopement risk, acute psychiatric symptoms, substance-related concerns, and other behavioral or clinical emergencies. Complete required risk assessments, safety plans, and clinical interventions within the therapist's scope of practice. Immediately communicate significant changes in an adolescent's clinical condition or safety risk to appropriate clinical, medical, nursing, and supervisory personnel. Participate in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and post-incident clinical review as appropriate. Follow mandated reporting requirements related to suspected child abuse, neglect, exploitation, or other reportable circumstances. Maintain professional boundaries and promote adolescent dignity, rights, safety, and confidentiality. Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities The Therapist provides services in accordance with applicable Pennsylvania and federal requirements, including: 28 Pa. Code Chapter 704, Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) requirements for counselor qualifications, clinical supervision, staffing, and staff development. 28 Pa. Code Chapter 709, DDAP requirements for freestanding drug and alcohol treatment facilities, including inpatient nonhospital residential treatment and rehabilitation. Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) requirements for child residential facilities, including child rights, health and safety, treatment services, supervision, confidentiality, and residential care. Applicable DHS Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) requirements associated with the mental health license(s) maintained by the facility. Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) requirements regarding mandated reporting, child protection, and required employee clearances. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and 42 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 2 requirements governing privacy, confidentiality, and disclosure of mental health and substance use disorder information. Applicable American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria, accreditation standards, payer requirements, professional ethical standards, and organizational policies.
The Therapist will:
Maintain all clinical records within required regulatory and organizational timeframes. Participate in required clinical supervision, staff meetings, treatment team meetings, and continuing education. Maintain required professional credentials, clearances, competencies, and training. Cooperate with DDAP, DHS/OMHSAS, accreditation, payer, and internal quality reviews as required. Participate in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) and corrective-action activities applicable to clinical services. Qualifications Required Master's degree from an accredited institution in Substance Use Disorders, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health discipline. Meets or exceeds applicable Pennsylvania DDAP counselor qualification requirements under 28 Pa. Code Chapter 704. Clinical experience providing behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment. Knowledge of adolescent development, substance use disorders, mental health conditions, trauma-informed care, family systems, treatment planning, crisis intervention, and clinical documentation. Ability to effectively provide individual, group, and family therapeutic services to adolescents. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Ability to satisfy all Pennsylvania criminal background, child abuse, and other clearance requirements applicable to individuals working with minors. Preferred Current Pennsylvania professional license or license eligibility as a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or other applicable behavioral health professional. Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience working with adolescents and/or individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Previous experience in adolescent residential, inpatient, or behavioral health treatment. Experience providing family therapy and working with parents and guardians of adolescents in treatment. Experience treating co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Knowledge of Pennsylvania DDAP, DHS, and OMHSAS requirements. Familiarity with ASAM Criteria, utilization review, medical necessity, and behavioral health payer requirements. Training in evidence-based approaches such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, trauma-focused interventions, and family systems approaches. Working Conditions This is a full-time clinical position within a 24-hour adolescent substance use disorder residential treatment environment. The Therapist works primarily onsite and regularly interacts with adolescents experiencing substance use disorders, mental health conditions, trauma, emotional dysregulation, family conflict, and other complex behavioral health needs. The position requires participation in a structured clinical schedule that may include individual sessions, group therapy, family sessions, treatment team meetings, and crisis response. Some evening or weekend availability may be required based on programming and family scheduling needs. All required professional credentials, background clearances, certifications, clinical supervision, and mandatory training must remain current throughout employment.
