Full Job Description Job Overview:

The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) / Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) will serve as a member of the Psychology Service within the Department of Veterans Affairs. We are currently seeking applicants for positions with the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). BHIP is composed of multidisciplinary teams of mental health professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive, accessible, and Veteran-centered care. The LPC is expected to demonstrate proficiency in conducting intake evaluations; developing treatment plans using a shared decision-making model; delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including crisis interventions when necessary; and coordinating care across multiple treatment domains. These positions currently offer a hybrid telework schedule; however, telework arrangements are subject to change at the discretion of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Currently, telework is two days a week.

Duties:

Provides a broad range of diagnostic services, including but not limited to intake assessments, treatment plan development and implementation, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Delivers evidence-based treatment interventions through individual, group, and/or family therapy. Utilizes evidence-based practices to address a variety of clinical concerns, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, PTSD, and psychosis. Coordinates treatment interventions using a multidisciplinary and holistic approach. Documents all clinical information in the Veteran's electronic medical record in accordance with VA policy, Joint Commission standards, and applicable licensing board requirements. Participates in VA-sponsored evidence-based psychotherapy trainings and completes all associated consultation requirements.

Qualifications:

Demonstrates proficiency with electronic systems and software, including word processing programs used for a variety of office automation tasks such as storing and retrieving electronic documents, operating printers, editing and formatting written materials, and managing email communications. Possesses a basic working knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems and their use in clinical documentation. Demonstrates familiarity with telehealth platforms and effectively delivers remote counseling services in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards. Utilizes evidence-based therapeutic modalities to support effective clinical intervention and treatment outcomes. Provides subject matter consultation to colleagues and trainees regarding counseling processes across various specialty areas. Engages in regular case discussions, reviews clinical progress, and collaborates on treatment perspectives to support continued professional development. Delivers complex crisis intervention and stabilization services to individuals experiencing acute psychological distress, utilizing independent clinical judgment and advanced intervention skills.

Licensure:

Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) / Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC)

Education:

The qualifying graduate degree must be from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The program must have been CACREP-accredited at the time of graduation. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Pay:

Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off:

37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.

Parental Leave:

After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy:

After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
