Job Description
Overview Join our dedicated mental health team as a Mental Health Counselor, where you will play a vital role in providing compassionate, comprehensive care to individuals across diverse populations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to utilize your expertise in psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and behavioral management to make a meaningful difference in clients' lives. You will work in a dynamic environment that emphasizes evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and applied behavior analysis, ensuring personalized treatment plans that promote healing and growth. Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments and diagnostic evaluations using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems to determine appropriate treatment strategies. Deliver individual and group counseling sessions utilizing modalities such as behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and grief counseling. Implement crisis management protocols and crisis intervention techniques to support clients experiencing acute mental health emergencies or trauma, including PTSD care. Develop and execute treatment plans tailored to clients' needs, including children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, and individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder. Maintain accurate medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations while utilizing medical terminology effectively for case management and clinical research purposes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including social workers, special education professionals, and medical staff—to coordinate patient care and ensure holistic support. Engage in telehealth services to expand access to mental health counseling while adhering to best practices for virtual patient engagement. Skills Proven experience in psychotherapy techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, addiction counseling, grief counseling, and trauma-focused approaches. Strong knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) for diagnostic evaluation and medical record documentation. Expertise in crisis intervention strategies and crisis management for diverse populations experiencing mental health emergencies. Ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, adults with disabilities—including developmental disabilities and autism—and geriatric patients within outpatient or inpatient settings. Skilled in behavior management techniques like applied behavior analysis (ABA) for clients with autism or behavioral challenges. Experience delivering specialized counseling such as gender issues counseling, chronic pain counseling, or working with patients suffering from PTSD or substance use disorders. Familiarity with telehealth platforms combined with excellent communication skills to ensure engaging virtual therapy sessions while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
