Job Summary Day One Mental Health Services is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and client-centered Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Professional to join our outpatient behavioral health team. This position provides community-based behavioral health and substance use disorder services to individuals experiencing substance use concerns, mental health conditions, and/or co-occurring needs. The SUD Professional works collaboratively with consumers, families and natural supports when appropriate, Service Facilitators, Mental Health Professionals, medical and behavioral health providers, and community partners to support individualized recovery and wellness goals. Services may be provided in the Day One office, in the community, or in other settings appropriate to the consumer's needs and authorized services. The SUD Professional is expected to provide services in accordance with applicable Wisconsin requirements, CCS Dane County expectations, Day One Mental Health Services policies and procedures, professional standards, and the consumer's individualized service plan. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, professional boundaries, cultural responsiveness, effective communication, and a commitment to person-centered and recovery-oriented care. Essential ResponsibilitiesSubstance Use Assessment and Clinical Services Complete substance use assessments and gather relevant psychosocial, behavioral health, and substance use information within the scope of the employee's education, training, credentials, and professional authorization. Identify substance use patterns, treatment needs, recovery strengths, risk factors, and potential co-occurring behavioral health concerns. Provide substance use disorder counseling and related interventions consistent with the individual's identified needs, authorized services, and professional scope of practice. Utilize evidence-informed approaches such as motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral strategies, relapse-prevention interventions, harm-reduction principles when clinically appropriate, and other recovery-oriented interventions within the professional's scope of practice. Assist consumers in identifying personal recovery goals, strengths, barriers, coping strategies, and practical steps toward improved stability and wellness. Provide individual and/or group services when appropriately trained, authorized, and assigned. Support consumers in developing skills related to recovery, emotional regulation, healthy decision-making, coping, community functioning, and relapse prevention. CCS Service Delivery and Coordination Provide CCS services consistent with the consumer's Comprehensive Community Services service plan, identified goals, authorized services, and Day One Mental Health Services procedures. Collaborate with the consumer and CCS team to promote continuity of care and progress toward identified goals. Participate in Recovery Team Meetings (RTMs), service planning, care coordination, and other team meetings as assigned. Communicate relevant service updates, concerns, barriers, and progress to appropriate members of the consumer's treatment/support team while maintaining confidentiality. Coordinate with Service Facilitators, Mental Health Professionals, physicians, therapists, other behavioral health providers, social service agencies, and community resources as appropriate. Assist consumers with connecting to community-based recovery, treatment, housing, employment, education, medical, social, and other supportive resources when appropriate. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when providing services in community settings and consumer homes. Crisis Response and Safety Recognize and respond appropriately to behavioral health and substance use-related crises within the employee's role, training, and scope of practice. Follow Day One Mental Health Services' crisis response, emergency, incident reporting, and safety procedures. Communicate promptly with the appropriate clinical supervisor or other designated professional when clinical consultation or intervention is needed. Follow emergency procedures when a consumer presents with an immediate safety concern or requires a level of care beyond the employee's scope or the agency's available services. Document significant incidents, safety concerns, crisis interventions, and follow-up actions in accordance with agency and CCS requirements. Documentation and Compliance Complete timely, accurate, objective, and clinically appropriate documentation for all services provided. Ensure documentation supports the service provided, consumer needs, identified goals, interventions, consumer response, progress, and follow-up. Accurately record service dates, times, locations, service types, travel time/mileage when applicable, and other required service information. Complete documentation and billing-related requirements within established Day One and CCS timelines. Utilize the agency's electronic documentation and record-keeping systems appropriately. Maintain confidentiality and protect consumer information in accordance with HIPAA, applicable Wisconsin requirements, CCS requirements, and Day One Mental Health Services policies. Participate in agency quality assurance activities, documentation reviews, audits, and corrective-action processes as needed. Maintain all required professional credentials, certifications, training, and continuing education. Team Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities Participate in required staff meetings, supervision, consultation, training, and professional development activities. Seek clinical supervision or consultation when a consumer's needs, risk level, clinical presentation, or circumstances exceed the employee's independent scope of practice. Communicate appropriately and professionally with consumers, families, coworkers, supervisors, referral sources, and community partners. Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards in all consumer and workplace interactions. Protect consumer dignity, autonomy, privacy, and rights. Promote culturally responsive, trauma-informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented services. Follow all Day One Mental Health Services policies, procedures, administrative requirements, and CCS Dane County expectations. Perform other duties consistent with the position, professional qualifications, and agency needs. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, Substance Use Counseling, or a related behavioral health field, as appropriate to the position and applicable requirements. Appropriate Wisconsin substance use disorder professional credential, certification, or eligibility consistent with the services being provided and applicable state requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of substance use disorders, recovery principles, co-occurring mental health conditions, and community-based behavioral health services. Experience providing services to individuals with substance use and/or co-occurring behavioral health needs is preferred. Knowledge of person-centered planning, recovery-oriented practices, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, and other evidence-informed behavioral health interventions. Ability to provide services in community-based settings and, when required, consumer homes or other locations identified as appropriate for service delivery. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to recognize situations requiring clinical consultation, supervision, emergency intervention, or referral to a higher level of care. Ability to maintain timely, accurate, objective, and compliant clinical/service documentation. Working knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality, professional ethics, and applicable behavioral health documentation requirements. Proficiency with electronic documentation systems and standard office technology. Ability to successfully complete all required agency, CCS, and professional trainings. Preferred Qualifications Experience working within Wisconsin's Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) program. Experience providing community-based behavioral health or substance use disorder services. Experience working with individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns. Experience with recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches. Familiarity with CCS service planning, Recovery Team Meetings, service documentation, and Medicaid-funded behavioral health services. Experience collaborating with Service Facilitators, Mental Health Professionals, medical providers, and other community-based providers. Knowledge of local Dane County behavioral health, substance use treatment, crisis, housing, employment, and community resources. Services may occur at the Day One Mental Health Services office, in consumer homes, in the community, or through other approved service locations based on consumer needs and authorized services. Employees are expected to follow agency safety procedures, maintain professional boundaries, and obtain appropriate clinical consultation when circumstances exceed their training, role, or scope of practice.
