A Mental or Behavioral Health Counselor works with patients to treat mental health problems. Assesses patients and assists with diagnosis, counseling and crisis intervention. Consults with nurses, doctors and psychiatrists. May work with specific populations, such as youth, senior citizens or substance abusers, in group settings, facilities or hospitals.
The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Therapist is responsible for conducting diagnostic assessments, Service Specific Provider Intakes (SSPI's), developing treatment plans, and delivering direct treatment services to incarcerated adults receiving Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD). Treatment is provided through individual, group, and family therapy, as well as Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), within a substance use continuum of care. This role is part of a collaborative initiative between the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center (NRADC) and Northwestern Community Services Board (NWCSB), aimed at supporting recovery, re-entry into community, and reducing recidivism. QUALIFICATIONS
A combination of education, experience, and training indicative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the position required. Master's degree earned from an accredited college or university in relevant human services field required. Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) eligibility required, license preferred. Experience working with clients with substance use disorders in a clinical setting required and in a correctional or forensic setting preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be able to provide own transportation.

May be exposed to allergenic environments from client's homes, including extreme heat, humidity, dust, smoke, pet contamination, cleaning supplies, etc. May be exposed to clients with infectious diseases Must be able to drive for long periods of time to visit clients in and out of the catchment area as needed Must be able to walk distances, climb and descend stairs, maneuver in and out of agency vehicles Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds at times
