A Mental or Behavioral Health Counselor works with patients to treat mental health problems. Assesses patients and assists with diagnosis, counseling and crisis intervention. Consults with nurses, doctors and psychiatrists. May work with specific populations, such as youth, senior citizens or substance abusers, in group settings, facilities or hospitals.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing crisis support and psychosocial rehabilitative services under the supervision of the Clinical Director.
  • Assisting clients in managing emergency mental health crises and transitioning back into the community.
  • Delivering psychosocial rehabilitative services, including: Transporting clients to essential services.
Monitoring and assisting with medication. Educating clients in daily living skills within a crisis residence, such as personal hygiene, house cleaning, cooking, and using transportation. Documenting and consulting on the support services provided, focusing on clients' progress towards goals. Training clients in social and behavioral skills, working individually to achieve crisis response plan goals. Implementing specific interventions to improve coping skills, personal behavior, and use of community supports. Participating in client status review meetings, documentation, and staff training sessions. Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective emergency mental health services through education, training, personal aptitude, and relevant life experience.
