Job Description

School-Age Teacher - Before & After School Programs Kids Adventures is hiring qualified School-Age Teachers for multiple before- and after-school locations throughout Montgomery County, Maryland. We are looking for energetic, reliable, and accountable individuals who are committed to providing fun, enriching activities in a safe and welcoming environment for school-age children. Applicants should be patient, professional, actively engaged with the children, and able to serve as positive role models. Teachers help develop and lead monthly clubs, plan lessons, and organize enrichment experiences based on the children's interests, needs, and abilities. Program Hours On regular school days, our programs generally operate: Before school: approximately 7:00-9:00 a.m.
After school:
approximately 3:00-6:30 p.m. We also provide care during select MCPS early-release days, professional days, school holidays, and winter and spring breaks. This is generally a part-time, split-shift position, with opportunities for additional hours. Responsibilities Actively supervise children and remain engaged throughout the program Maintain the health, safety, and well-being of all children Plan and lead age-appropriate clubs, games, projects, crafts, STEM activities, literacy experiences, and physical activities Implement activities based on the current lesson plan and children's interests Provide children with meaningful choices and adapt activities to meet individual needs and abilities Assist with room set-up, activity preparation, clean-up, and closing procedures Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment Follow all Kids Adventures policies and Maryland childcare licensing requirements Know and follow the program's emergency and safety procedures Support positive behavior and help children resolve conflicts appropriately Build positive relationships with children, families, school personnel, and coworkers Communicate professionally with the Site Director and other team members Assist with attendance, transitions, snack service, and dismissal procedures Participate in staff meetings, training, family events, and other required program activities Complete assigned responsibilities with limited direct supervision Report directly to the Site Director or Assistant Director Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required At least one year of experience working with children required; school-age childcare experience preferred Must meet Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care requirements for a qualified School-Age Teacher 90-Hour School-Age Child Care Certification required ADA Training required Basic Health and Safety Training required Nine-Hour Communication Course or approved college-course equivalent required CPR and First Aid Certification required or willingness to complete employer-provided training Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to plan, organize, and lead group activities Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team Dependable, patient, professional, and able to maintain consistent attendance Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors Must be able to successfully complete all required background checks Hiring Process Our hiring process includes: Virtual interview State and federal criminal background checks Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care background-clearance requirements Medical evaluation and required health documentation Verification of education, experience, training, and certifications Completion of required continuing-education courses What We Provide CPR and First Aid certification, when needed Continuing-education and professional-development opportunities Opportunities for additional hours on early-release days, school-closure days, and school breaks A supportive team environment Opportunities for professional growth within Kids Adventures Schedule Monday through Friday Morning and/or afternoon shifts Part-time Split-shift availability preferred Additional daytime hours may be available when MCPS is closed
