Child Care Director Barnesville Child Day Care Center | Barnesville, Minnesota The Child Care Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and daily operations of the center. The Director ensures a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children while maintaining compliance with all state licensing regulations. The Director provides leadership to staff, builds positive relationships with families, manages the center's financial and operational functions, and serves as the primary liaison between the center and the Board of Directors. The Director is expected to uphold the mission and values of Barnesville Child Day Care Center while fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, safety, and excellence in early childhood education.
Essential Responsibilities:
Leadership & Staff Management Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and retain qualified staff. Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, supervision, and performance management. Develop staff schedules to ensure proper classroom coverage and licensing compliance. Conduct regular staff meetings and communicate policy, procedural, and licensing updates. Coordinate required staff training and professional development opportunities. Maintain employee records and ensure completion of all licensing-required documentation. Promote a positive workplace culture that supports teamwork, professionalism, and employee engagement. Maintain confidentiality regarding employee and organizational matters. Train and develop leadership succession plans, including cross-training key staff. Licensing, Compliance & Risk Management Ensure continuous compliance with all Minnesota childcare licensing regulations and requirements. Maintain accurate records for children, staff, training, health, and safety requirements. Coordinate and document required emergency drills, inspections, and compliance activities. Ensure adherence to health, safety, sanitation, nutrition, and emergency preparedness standards. Report suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with mandated reporting laws. Address compliance concerns promptly and implement corrective actions when necessary. Child & Family Services Oversee enrollment processes, admissions, waitlists, and classroom placements. Conduct tours and provide information to prospective families. Maintain accurate child records, including health, immunization, and enrollment documentation. Foster positive relationships with children and families through open communication and responsive service. Address family concerns professionally and collaboratively. Support successful transitions for children entering, moving within, or exiting the program. Ensure programming supports the developmental, emotional, social, and educational needs of all children. Promote an inclusive environment that respects the diversity of children and families. Financial & Administrative Management Assist in developing and managing the annual operating budget. Oversee billing, tuition collection, payroll processes, and financial reporting. Review expenses and monitor financial performance in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Maintain records related to employee benefits, leave, and payroll administration. Manage vendor relationships and facility service contracts. Coordinate purchasing and inventory management of supplies, equipment, and food program needs. Prepare reports and documentation requested by the Board of Directors. Facility & Operations Management Ensure the facility remains safe, clean, secure, and compliant with licensing requirements. Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and facility improvements. Oversee building security systems, access control, and operational procedures. Develop and maintain operational policies and procedures. Ensure adequate staffing and resources to support daily operations. Serve in classrooms as necessary to maintain ratios, licensing standards, and continuity of care. Community & Board Relations Serve as the primary liaison between the center, Board of Directors, families, and community partners. Attend Board meetings and provide operational updates, recommendations, and reports. Support fundraising activities, community outreach, and public relations initiatives. Represent the center in professional, community, and industry organizations. Promote the Center's mission and strengthen community partnerships.
Qualifications Required:
Meet Minnesota licensing qualifications for a Child Care Center Director. Experience working in a licensed childcare or early childhood education setting. Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities. Knowledge of child development and best practices in early childhood education. Proficiency with common office and childcare management software systems. Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, Business Administration, or related field. Previous experience as a Child Care Director, Assistant Director, or Program Manager. Experience with budgeting, payroll oversight, and financial management. Physical Requirements Ability to frequently stand, bend, kneel, sit on the floor, and move throughout the classroom. Ability to lift and carry children and classroom materials as required. Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
