POSITION SUMMARY
The Camp Counselor engages and supervises groups of children in grades K-12 in a variety of sports activities in the venue and ensures that they have a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience in these group activities. Responsible for carrying out lesson plans and coaching designed by the Program Manager. Responsible for maintaining effective discipline and safety procedures during all activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING
Supervise and coach a group of 8-10 campers each day Maintain updated rosters and program forms while on duty Organizes, instructs and supervises children while they engage in group and individual sports activities Contacts parents via phone and email related to program schedule Maintains effective discipline and safety procedures during sports program activities Assist with early morning drop-off and/or late pick-up for camp Assist other counselors/coaches with all camp activities Performs other related duties as directed and/or required The incumbent enforces policies, procedures, and safety rules at assigned sites Additional tasks assigned by management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a day camp or sports program setting working with children Collegiate or high school athletic experience preferred College degree preferred, or current student working towards a degree A variety of recreational and athletic activities; knowledge of basic sports skills and instruction; and knowledge of sports rules and regulations Ability to work with and communicate well with children in grades K-12 and their parents as well as other staff Ability to lead and involve campers in various sports activities Ability to edit MS Word/Excel documents and send email messages with attachments to parents Ability to provide first aid and emotional support and assistance to children in grades K-12 Ability to coordinate the use of facilities and activities for a large group of children Ability to maintain effective relationships with employees Ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, and other staff
Licenses and Certifications:
CPR and first aid certifications preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend Must be able to walk to identify problems or hazards as well as work with children during recreational activities
