Job Description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis Catholic Education and Formation features an expansive coalition of schools that allow our children to develop a sense of purpose and value, receive a higher quality education, join a welcoming community and feel secure in a a dynamic future. We have a rich history, with its establishment 200 years ago by St. Rose Phillppine Duchesne. A coalition of schools serving over 50,000 students (PreK-12) within an 11-county area. Job Summary The Childcare Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the church childcare or nursery program. This role ensures a safe, nurturing, and faith-filled environment for children while supporting the mission and values of the Catholic Church. The supervisor provides leadership to childcare staff and volunteers and ensures high standards of care, safety, and Christian formation.

Job Responsibilities 1. Childcare Program Management Supervise daily operations of the childcare/nursery program during church services, events, and activities Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all children Develop and implement age-appropriate activities that reflect Catholic values Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios at all times 2. Staff & Volunteer Supervision Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise childcare workers and volunteers Provide ongoing guidance, support, and performance feedback Ensure all staff and volunteers meet diocesan safe environment requirements and background checks 3. Child Safety & Compliance Enforce all church, diocesan, and state childcare policies and safety procedures Respond appropriately to emergencies, injuries, or behavioral concerns Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and parent communications 4. Faith Integration Incorporate prayer, kindness, and basic Catholic values into childcare activities when appropriate Foster a loving, respectful environment consistent with Christian teachings Support the church's mission of welcoming families and nurturing faith from an early age 5. Communication & Family Support Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding childcare policies and child needs Greet families warmly and provide a trustworthy point of contact Address concerns professionally and promptly 6. Administrative Duties Manage scheduling, supply inventory, and childcare room organization Assist in budgeting and resource planning for childcare needs Coordinate with church leadership regarding program updates and improvements Job Requirements Experience in childcare, early childhood education, or youth ministry (required or preferred) Knowledge of child development and safety practices Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Must complete background checks and safe environment training as required by the diocese Practicing Catholic or willingness to support Catholic teachings and mission (often preferred) CPR/First Aid certification (preferred or required depending on parish policy) The Archdiocese of St. Louis Catholic Education and Formation is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.
