$30/hr for childcare (rate depends on experience and qualifications), with guaranteed hours, 2 weeks paid time off (1 week selected by nanny, 1 week selected by family), accrued paid sick time, and paid holidays. The nanny is paid to remain on-call during non-active working hours while the children are at school, at a rate of $25/hr. Pay is legal, with taxes withheld and paid via direct deposit through a payroll company. A family vehicle is provided for use during work hours. Pay breakdown (example day): Direct childcare: 7:00-10:15am (3.15 hrs) + 2:20-6:30pm (4.167 hrs) = 7.317 hrs × $30 = $219.51

The family has lived in the Seattle area for more than 10 years and has had only two nannies during that time — they value excellent relationships with their care providers. Both parents have demanding professional careers, so reliability and the ability to help keep the household running smoothly are especially important. Their two boys, ages 10 and 7, are sweet, well-behaved kids. The family also has an 11-year-old Goldendoodle in the home.

The Job Description:

This is a combined nanny/family assistant role involving significant driving and some daytime household support. The boys attend school in Seattle's Ravenna neighborhood. A typical day includes helping the boys get ready in the morning, driving them to school, assisting with household tasks while they are in school (approximately 6-8 hours per week), and then handling school pickup and transportation to after-school activities, primarily in Kirkland and Bellevue. There is a period of downtime while the boys are at school — typically between drop-off (around 9:00-9:15am) and pickup (around 2:20pm) — once the day's family-assistant duties are complete. The family asks that the nanny remain available on-call during this window, which is reflected in the $25/hr on-call rate. The family also needs flexibility on days the children are home for scheduled school closures or sick days (as agreed upon). They have professional house cleaners every other week, so this is not a deep-cleaning position.
