Job Description

The Congregational Care and Engagement Director is a full-time ministry position serving as part of CMCA's integrated approach to lifelong Christian discipleship, congregational care, hospitality, and community evangelism. This individual will work closely with the Senior Pastor, church staff, lay leaders, and other ministry areas to help ensure that members, constituents, and guests experience the love and care of Christ. The director will provide direct ministry to individuals and families while recruiting, training, and mobilizing lay servants for ministries of visitation, encouragement, and congregational care. A particular emphasis of this position will be connecting with guests, serving as a liaison as they become integrated into the life of CMCA, and helping individuals discover meaningful pathways into worship, discipleship, fellowship, service, and church membership. This position will also provide leadership for expanding CMCA's congregational care ministry, including developing and implementing a Stephen Ministry or a comparable structured lay-care ministry. All responsibilities will be carried out under the supervision of the Senior Pastor and in coordination with the Executive Leadership Team. Primary Responsibilities Congregational Care
  • Coordinate and lead hospital, rehabilitation facility, homebound, and nursing-home visitation responsibilities alongside the Senior Pastor, church staff, and trained volunteers.
  • Provide appropriate spiritual support to individuals and families experiencing illness, hospitalization, grief, crisis, major life transitions, or other significant needs.
  • Recruit, equip, resource, and coordinate lay visitation individuals and teams.
  • Develop systems to help ensure that congregational care needs are identified, communicated, assigned, and followed through appropriately.
  • Communicate congregational care needs, with proper discretion and confidentiality, to the Senior Pastor, Executive Administrator, staff, prayer team, and appropriate lay-care groups.
  • Maintain appropriate records of visitation, care needs, follow-up actions, and ongoing spiritual concerns.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing coordination of a Stephen Ministry or comparable structured lay-care ministry.
  • Recruit, train, encourage, and support Stephen Ministers or other lay caregivers to provide confidential, Christ-centered care to individuals experiencing difficult seasons.
  • Develop additional support ministries as needed, including ministries related to grief, caregiving, illness, homebound members, and major life transitions.
  • Help cultivate a congregational culture in which members care faithfully and compassionately for one another. Engagement
  • Provide leadership to help create a warm, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment for guests.
  • Connect personally with guests and help ensure that they receive timely, appropriate, and meaningful follow-up.
  • Serve as a liaison and consistent point of contact for guests as they become acquainted with and integrated into the life of CMCA.
  • Help guests identify clear next steps into worship, Sunday school, small groups, ministry programs, service opportunities, and church membership.
  • Develop and oversee an intentional guest follow-up and assimilation process in collaboration with the Senior Pastor, staff, and ministry leaders.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers, including greeters, welcome teams, information-area volunteers, ushers, and guest follow-up teams.
  • Work with ministry leaders to connect guests and newer attendees with appropriate age-level ministries, discipleship opportunities, and areas of service.
  • Monitor guest engagement and follow-up to help prevent individuals and families from becoming disconnected during the integration process.
  • Assist with newcomer gatherings, membership classes, welcome events, and other opportunities designed to help people build relationships and become meaningfully involved at CMCA.
  • Regularly evaluate the guest experience and recommend improvements to CMCA's hospitality, communication, follow-up, and integration practices. Staff and Ministry Duties
  • Participate in staff meetings for planning, vision casting, ministry coordination, and communication regarding hospitality and congregational care.
  • Collaborate with staff and lay leaders to ensure that hospitality, guest integration, discipleship, other church ministry leaders/areas, and congregational care ministries work together effectively.
  • Develop annual ministry goals, plans, and budget recommendations for congregational care and engagement.
  • Attend other meetings as requested by the Senior Pastor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications
  • A committed and growing Christian who demonstrates spiritual maturity, personal integrity, compassion, and a servant's heart.
  • A team-oriented leader and lifelong learner who embraces the mission of CMCA and the Global Methodist Church.
  • An understanding of and commitment to Wesleyan doctrine, ministry, and church polity.
  • An understanding of the spiritual, physical, relational, and emotional needs of children, youth, adults, and older adults.
  • A genuine love for people and a demonstrated ability to relate well and provide spiritual support to guests, church members, volunteers, staff, and community partners.
  • Strong relational skills and the ability to help individuals feel known, welcomed, valued, and connected.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, organize, encourage, and care for volunteers and lay-ministry teams.
