Job Description
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF ELKINS FULL TIME PASTOR
First Baptist Church of Elkins is prayerfully seeking a full-time Lead Pastor and is now receiving resumes. We are a multi-generational, Southern Baptist church located in Northwest Arkansas just a few miles southeast of Fayetteville. We believe our next pastor will be filled with the Holy Spirit to boldly proclaim the Word of God with a focus on applying it in our everyday lives. We are looking for a Pastor who deeply loves his congregation and has a heart for community outreach which is shown both in word and deed. FBCE began in 1969 as a church mission with the goal of reaching the people of Elkins with the love of Christ. We exist to help people connect with God and others in vital relationship, grow in their walk with God, and serve one another in love. We are a mid-size congregation with an average of 130 in morning worship. We have thriving mid-week children and youth programs averaging over 130 students during the school year. As a suburb of Fayetteville, Elkins is a vibrant city experiencing substantial growth. Current city population is estimated to be almost 4,000. - Must meet the biblical qualifications of a pastor found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, 1 Peter 5:1-5
- Minimum of 5 years of prior experience as a Lead Pastor
- Master of Divinity preferred, from an accredited Southern Baptist seminary
- In full agreement and compliance with the doctrinal statements of the Southern Baptist Statement of Faith and Message (2000)
- Be willing to live within the Elkins, Arkansas community
- Preference is for the candidate to be married
Responsibilities:
- Communicate faith and beliefs through inspirational preaching & teaching skills
- Provide leadership vision and a compelling plan for the future of the church
- Develop and strengthen lay leadership
- Counseling members who are dealing with personal problems
- Care of individual members (includes visiting the sick, grieving, homebound)
- Contact and follow up of potential and new members
- Work with individual groups within the church: committees, deacons, etc.
- Support mission opportunities and evangelistic witness, both local and worldwide
- Participation in denominational organizations (WMBA, ABSC, SBC)
- Administration / management of church staff and programs
- Participation in community activities
