Job Description
Purpose The Director of Youth Ministries & Contemporary Worship serves Sierra Presbyterian Church by leading vibrant, Christ-centered youth ministry (Middle School and High School) and by directing the contemporary worship experience. This role integrates discipleship and worship as complementary expressions of the same gospel mission — forming young people as worshipers and inviting the congregation into participatory, Spirit-led encounters with God. Ministry Responsibilities Essential Functions and Responsibilities for Youth Ministry (60% - 24 hours) Develop and set appropriate goals and strategic objective for the youth department that engage youth in the life of the broader church in conjunction with the Senior Pastor and Elder of Youth Ministries. Recruit, train, equip and work alongside adult volunteers and student leaders with skills required to carry out an effective youth (middle school and high school) ministry. Assist adult volunteers in discovering their individual spiritual gifts for designing, developing and implementing comprehensive evangelistic, discipling and mission-centered programs. Develop, plan and designate responsibility for Sunday morning and mid-week youth programs. Encourage and work with parents, Senior Pastor and church leadership in developing youth volunteer leadership team. Regularly participate in planning fellowship and program events for youth age groups both at church and within the community. Encourage, consult with, advise and pray with adult volunteers and student leaders. Facilitate open communication between youth ministries and other ministries of the church. Work closely with church staff, Session and the youth ministry team in coordinating youth and college career ministry of the whole congregation. Prepare and submit an Annual Plan for the Youth Ministry program at Sierra Presbyterian Church. Submit a quarterly progress report to the Senior Pastor. Take part in the form of prayer and scripture reading for spiritual growth as well as other church activities (e.g. small group participation, seminars, etc.). Attend conferences and continuing education classes relating to youth ministries. Spend roughly 4 hours of your weekly hours to prioritize consistent presence at local middle and high school events and community activities to build relational bridges with students outside the church. Essential Functions and Responsibilities for Worship (40% - 16 hours) Be involved in the planning, coordinating, and presentation of music for the contemporary worship service (sermon series tie-ins and special services) creating a weekly worship schedule along with pastoral and worship staff. Lead weekly rehearsals with the worship band/team. Oversee audio/visual tech volunteers and equipment needs for the contemporary service and other events. Mentor and develop individual worship team musicians spiritually and musically. Create rotating team to provide leadership for the contemporary service under the direction of the Pastor as Head of Staff. Assist in developing a contemporary worship culture at Sierra Presbyterian Church and maintain a long-term worship culture of both excellence and accessibility Envision and implement other creative expressions of worship that supports the Biblical message in ways that are participatory. Administrative Responsibilities Develop and maintain various calendars and directories as related to youth and worship ministries. Participate in weekly church staff meetings and lead as directed by Senior Pastor. Help maintain a constantly evolving collection of worship songs which are like-able, sing-able and worshipful. Assist in the scheduling and coordination of facility use (in conjunction with staff) for related contemporary music. As directed, attend pertinent staff related events. Perform other duties and tasks as requested and assigned by the Senior Pastor. Qualifications & Experience The Director of Youth Ministries and Contemporary Worship shall be a Christian and an experienced combo musician (instruments and vocal) who has a background in leading and performing contemporary Christian music. Experience in youth ministry leadership (suggested: 2+ years) and a demonstrated ability to build relational, discipleship-focused ministry with adolescents. This position requires a commitment to working collaboratively with staff, volunteers and parents. Ability to read music and/or read and lead from chord sheets. Effective organization and communication skills. Ability to work successfully with people of diverse backgrounds and interests. This position requires agreement with EPC's Statement of Faith along with Sierra Presbyterian's Staff Covenant.
