The Youth Program serves the faith needs of our community who are in middle and/or high schools. The position will provide leadership, coordination, and supervision of activities associated with the youth, family and faith formation ministries of HLLC in keeping with Lutheran identity and HLLC's mission and purpose. At this point, the position is a two-year commitment with the hope and expectation of renegotiating terms effective Summer of 2028. The primary duties of this position are: 1. Faith Leader Have a personal, vibrant faith in God through relationship with Jesus Christ Creating (or using pre-approved curriculum) and teaching Biblical Christian lessons at levels appropriate for middle and high school students, in accordance with the Lutheran lens of faith Plan and implement faith development and learning events for middle and high school students (lead Youth Group) at least once a month Plan and execute fundraisers in cooperation with the youth and families Mentor youth: promote and encourage individuals' growth in Christ Demonstrate an interest in individual youth's lives and seek to build relationships Interact with youth of varying interests and backgrounds equally Communicate with families and assist adult family members in crisis as needed, in coordination with the Pastor Oversee a financial budget, including submitting expense reports in a timely manner and communicating with the Finance Team about unanticipated financial needs to find a solution In cooperation with the Pastor, implement Confirmation curriculum Attend worship at least one Sunday a month at Holy Love Lutheran Church Deliver children's message in worship once a month Assist with Sunday School (preschool and Kindergarten, and elementary school) as a substitute when needed 2. Youth Group Trips Chaperone Coordinate travel, lodging, and meals for the ELCA Youth Gathering with Holy Love Youth Group in Minneapolis June 28-July 2, 2027 Attend the ELCA Youth Gathering as the group's adult chaperone Communicate with parents and other guardians about experiences at the Youth Gathering Communicate back to the congregation about the Youth Gathering Attend half the week of Confirmation Camp at Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp, dates TBD and flexible in cooperation with Pastor 3. Work As Part of a Team Communicate and meet with the Christian Education team in awarding scholarships and planning faith events Submit regular reports to the Church Council Promote events at least two weeks in advance to the Communications and Records Coordinator for congregational awareness and website updating Recruit and train adult volunteers to help lead events 4. Be a Safe Person Follow mandatory reporting procedures and guidelines Adhere to the congregation's Safe Haven Policy Communicate appropriately and transparently with youth and families Agree to and pass a background check Reports directly to Pastor with Council as final oversight.

The ideal candidate will have:

Demonstrated successful experience leading teenagers (middle school and high school age groups) Strong written communication skills Approachable and personable attitude A willingness to learn from mistakes An expansive understanding of God in line with the ELCA's social statements A self-starter who can successfully envision and implement programs Familiarity with the ELCA is a bonus but is not required. This position is a two-year commitment with the hope and expectation of renegotiation and renewal.

Time Commitment :

Due to the nature of youth ministry, weekly time commitments vary greatly depending on the events. Without travel or overnight experiences, this position is approximately 5-10 hours per week.

Compensation:

$20-25/hour, depending on experience. Eligible for FAMLI benefits. For overnight trips, the Youth Ministries Director will be paid for up to 16 hours of work per day.
