Job Description

Campus Minister / Parish Associate Saint Thomas & St Timothy Parish Corporation 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06119 Working closely with the Priest Chaplain, the Campus Minister is responsible for the pastoral leadership of the campus faith community. Responsibilities include liturgy and music, faith formation, OCIA and sacramental preparation, pastoral care to students, catechesis and evangelization, and social ministry. This position also includes involvement at Saint Thomas / Saint Timothy Parish to integrate ministry resources and assist in youth and young adult ministry. The Campus Minister is a fully initiated member of the Catholic Church, nourished through ongoing spiritual formation and prayer, and adheres to all teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Campus Minister accompanies members of the community in faith growth and in deepening personal relationship with the Lord. The Campus Minister embraces the opportunity to accompany students in human and spiritual development. The Campus Minister fosters a healthy Catholic environment for students entrusted to campus ministry. Coordinates liturgy and prayer for the on-campus faith community, especially Sunday Mass and weekday Mass Works with Priest Chaplain and nearby priests to facilitate sacraments Organizes training and assigns lectors, servers, musicians, and other ministerial roles Leads weekly Bible studies and forms students in discipleship and disciple-making Organizes retreats, conferences, talks, and other opportunities for spiritual growth Develops effective programs that contribute to community building, faith development, evangelization, and leadership enrichment Represents the Catholic Church on campus and pursues opportunities for class lectures, forums, and seminars Promotes team leadership and peer ministry to further the evangelizing mission of the campus Catholic faith community Provides spiritual counsel to students, referring individuals to appropriate outside resources when needed Organizes staffing and training for campus ministry activities Fosters connections with the Vocations Director for students expressing interest in priesthood or religious life Forms a Christ-centered faith community rich in social and communal experiences such as cookouts, movie nights, hikes, pilgrimages, and on-campus events Assists graduates in transition to the next phase of Christian young adult life Reaches out to inactive Catholics among the student population Develops mission, goals, and vision for the Catholic Center Manages budget and expenses in collaboration with the Priest Chaplain and the Archdiocese Works with local parishes and apostolates to coordinate service opportunities Maintains database of past, current, and prospective students and alumni Works with the student executive board, especially the president, to shape vision and direction of the Catholic Center Develops relationship between parish and campus ministry program Builds connections between parish youth and young adults and campus students, strengthening participation in the wider Catholic community Assists with parish ministry when appropriate Educational Requirements MA in Theology/Religious Studies or a related field and/or two years of pastoral ministry experience Thorough knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church and teachings, as well as understanding of the Catholic vision for social, moral, and ethical issues Additional Qualities Ability to articulate a personal vision of spirituality and community Ability to function effectively in a team and collaborative ministry setting Ability to work comfortably and engage within an academic setting Ability to relate well with young adults and serve as a Catholic role model Ability to interact effectively with college administration Ability to articulate and uphold appropriate boundaries Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions Requires prolonged standing, walking, and/or sitting Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials up to 25 pounds May require occasional stooping, bending, and reaching Work takes place on campus and in the Catholic Center, in both individual and group settings Hours Weekend and evening work hours are required
