Family Ministry Assistant St. Paul's United Methodist Church - 4.1 Cedar Rapids, IA Job Details Part-time From $20 an hour 2 hours ago Qualifications Event breakdown High school diploma or GED Driver's License Working with children Bachelor's degree Event cleanup Event setup Emergency response procedures Venue cleaning Teaching Time management Full Job Description Summary The Assistant Director of Family Ministries works collaboratively with the Family Ministry Director, church leadership, and staff to support and advance the mission and priorities of St. Paul's UMC through creative and engaging ministry. This role provides leadership, discernment, and guidance for children's and/or youth ministries, with specific responsibilities shaped by the individual's skills, passions, and strengths Essential Functions Support and strengthen the overall vision and ministry of St. Paul's Family Ministries Collaborate with staff and volunteers to plan, implement, and evaluate programming
  • Provide leadership and support (not primary oversight) in one or more of the following areas: o Children's Ministry (Infants - 5th Grade) o Youth Ministry (6th - 12th Grade) o Intergenerational Ministry
  • Build meaningful relationships with children, youth, and families to foster connection and belonging
  • Assist with special events, seasonal programming, and intergenerational opportunities
  • Encourage participation and engagement in the life of the church Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Support, equip, and encourage volunteers serving in family ministries Position Type and Expected Hours of Work Up to 10 hours/week Wednesday Evenings and Sunday Mornings Core Competencies

    Spiritual Formation/Discipleship:

      Shows willingness to try new ideas, consider different approaches, and regularly evaluate what has been done to constantly improve. This also includes working with people from diverse backgrounds and various sectors of the community.
        Teaching:
        Designs effective lesson plans and facilitates learning experiences in both small and large group settings; selects teaching topics that are relevant, provocative, and contribute to a deeper understanding of scripture, theology, and spiritual practice; uses a variety of teaching topics to maintain and build connection.
          Evangelism/Witness:
          Stands ready to communicate and spread a message of good news; encourages members to do likewise; supports a culture of evangelism, witness, and ministry growth outside the walls of the congregation.

            Leadership:

Position Requirements Education & Experience High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience working with children, youth, or families in church, educational, or community settings is preferred. Evidence of creativity, initiative, and a commitment to ministry growth.
            Additional Qualifications Dependability & Responsibility :
            Proven track record of reliability, strong time-management skills, and a high level of accountability for project deadlines.
            Reliability & Transportation:
            Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required for travel to various on-site and off-site gatherings or events. Must be willing and able to occasionallyassist in transporting ministry participants for events or activities.
            Self-Motivation & Independence :
            A proactive self-starter comfortable operating with autonomy, managing priorities efficiently, and driving projects forward with minimal supervision. Physical Requirements Ability to perform all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to move throughout the church building and grounds during programs and events. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and remain active for extended periods. Ability to set up and clean up rooms and equipment for programming and special events. Ability to lift and carry ministry supplies, tables, chairs, and equipment up to 40 pounds. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations involving children, youth, volunteers, or congregants.
            Pay:
            From $20.00 per hour
