Position Summary The Youth Ministry Director of the First United Methodist Church organizes and implements a ministry of Christian education with volunteers and paid staff, so that youth and families can grow in the faith and come to know the love that God has for them. Essential Functions Lead and coordinate the middle school and high school youth groups. This includes developing the program and activities through the school year, setting schedules, and communication with families. Provides regular and consistent communication and updates for programs through various newsletters, emails, and social media outlets. Responsible for programming budgetary management as well as creating fundraising activities to supplement those events not funded through the church. Actively recruits and manages volunteers for the youth and family ministries year round. This includes training, communication, scheduling, and recognition. Builds relationships with our youth beyond church activities. Works with the Pastor, Administrative Council, and Education Committee to ensure that our programming meets the needs of our multi-generational discipleship ministries. Works with committees for special events throughout the year. Coordinates retreats, mission trips, and service projects. Leads and coordinates summer education activities with community partners. Follows the Safe Sanctuary guidelines. Qualifications The applicant is a person of Christian faith, integrity, and character who models the Christian lifestyle and serves as an example and witness to those affected by their ministry. The applicant has the ability to communicate Christian values with clarity and effectiveness. In addition, the applicant is a self-starter with an encouraging enthusiastic attitude and the ability to develop positive relationships in working as part of a team. The applicant is able to exercise self-restraint and considers the consequences of their actions and words. The applicant demonstrates leadership, organizational, and administrative skills. The applicant demonstrates initiative and commitment to do whatever it takes to make disciples of Christ, especially among youth. The applicant demonstrates the ability to compromise, communicate, and gracefully work through conflict in the church community.

The applicant possesses Computer skills:

Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel with the ability to use email and other social media and digital platforms (Facebook, Zoom, Planning Center, etc.) The applicant demonstrates flexibility and may be required to perform additional duties in the area of Christian Education assigned by the Pastor or Staff Parish Relations Committee. Education, Certifications and Licenses Associates degree desired with preference given to applicants with bachelor's degree in Theology, Sociology, Education or related fields. Preferred two years' experience in church or community services in a leadership position and/or the combination of education and experience in working with youth. Will go through Mandatory Reporting Certification and stay current in processes and procedures. Ability to maintain an Iowa Driver's license and proof of car insurance with liability. Time Requirements This is a part-time position up to 20 hours a week. Time worked will be on a flexible schedule dependent on work that is needed to be completed. Mandated work dates include Lenten Season, Christmas Season, Sundays, and Wednesdays. Schedule will be approved by Pastor and accountability will be shared with the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Pay:

$20.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 20.0 per week
