Overview St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral in Boise, Idaho is seeking a Christ-centered educator to serve as our full-time Lay Canon for Christian Formation. The Canon will lead our congregation in growing deeper in the knowledge and love of God, providing vision and leadership for Christian formation among children, youth, families, and adults. This role will creatively engage children and youth in the worship and life of the Cathedral while cultivating opportunities for biblical and spiritual formation across generations. Position Description Develop and implement a comprehensive vision for Christian formation from early childhood through 12th grade, along with a strategic vision for adult formation. Build relationships with and among Cathedral families, provide resources, and support for Christian parenting and discipleship at home. Recruit, equip, train, and encourage adult volunteers serving in Children's and Youth Formation. Oversee required volunteer training in the prevention of misconduct and sexual abuse. Communicate formation opportunities clearly and effectively through email, social media, the Cathedral e-news, newsletter, and other appropriate channels. Children's Formation Oversee the two volunteer-led Sunday morning formation offerings for children: Sheepfold (ages 3.5-5) and Living Sunday (grades K-5). Plan and oversee children's activities on Wednesday evenings following Cathedral Night dinner. Provide leadership and oversight for annual children's events, including the Christmas Pageant, Shrove Tuesday, Vacation Bible School, and the St. Michael's weekend at Paradise Point Episcopal Church Camp. Youth Formation Lead a comprehensive formation program for middle and high school youth that includes Sunday formation and opportunities for engagement throughout the year. Organize and lead the weekly Sunday evening Youth Group. Identify, develop, and disciple youth leaders within the congregation. Oversee the Youth Space, including its use during lunch and after school by students at nearby Boise High School. Build relationships with youth by attending their extracurricular activities, including sports, recitals, and other events. Develop opportunities for youth mission and service. Serve as Acolyte Master for the cathedral Adult Formation Oversee volunteer-led Sunday formation offerings for adults. Plan and oversee adult formation on Wednesday evenings following Cathedral Night dinner in collaboration with the clergy. Develop and coordinate additional opportunities for adult formation, in collaboration with the clergy, including Confirmation, Episcopal 101, Bible study, and other opportunities for spiritual growth.
Compensation and Benefits Salary:
