Job Description

HCA Healthcare is seeking a Resident CPE to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will participate in Clinical Pastoral Education, offering spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff while developing advanced pastoral care skills. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, respond to referrals and crises, and document patient encounters. Responsibilities Provide direct spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff across assigned hospital units Conduct spiritual assessments and document encounters in the electronic medical record according to hospital policy Respond to urgent and emergent calls, including traumas, codes, end-of-life situations, and other crises Offer grief and bereavement support, including presence with families during and after death and at difficult family meetings Facilitate or coordinate religious rituals, prayer, sacraments, and rites, or arrange for appropriate community clergy as requested by patients and families Participate fully in all ACPE-accredited CPE educational activities, including seminars, verbatims, group process, reading, and individual supervision Engage in reflective practice to deepen self-awareness, pastoral identity, and professional competency Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to integrate spiritual care into overall patient treatment and discharge planning Support staff well-being through presence, debriefings, and participation in resilience and compassion fatigue initiatives Maintain professional ethics, boundaries, confidentiality, and compliance with HCA Healthcare policies and regulatory standards Participate in an on-call rotation, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned Contribute to quality improvement efforts and spiritual care department projects as requested Required Skills Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) fundamentals Spiritual assessment and care planning Crisis intervention and trauma response Grief, loss, and bereavement support End-of-life and palliative care communication Interfaith and cross-cultural spiritual care Professional chaplaincy documentation in an electronic medical record Active listening, presence, and empathic communication Group process and self-reflection skills Ethical decision-making and familiarity with healthcare ethics Collaboration within an interdisciplinary healthcare team Time management and workload prioritization in an acute care setting Boundary management and emotional self-regulation Basic computer and healthcare documentation skills
