Job Description -
Youth Leader Reporting Relationship:
The Youth Leader reports directly to the Family Discipleship Pastor (FDP) and is accountable to the Senior Pastor and the Westside Community Church Board.
Position Summary:
The Youth Leader serves as the point person for ministry to students in grades 5-12. Working under the direction of the Family Discipleship Pastor, the Youth Leader helps carry out the church's mission and vision by leading a Christ-centered youth ministry that encourages students toward a personal faith in Jesus Christ and a growing life of discipleship. The Youth Leader will oversee the day-to-day ministry, work closely with volunteers and families, and build meaningful, appropriate relationships with students.
Weekly Expectations:
Approximately 10 hours per week, including Wednesday evening youth programming (5 - 8 pm), Sunday School and Worship (8:30-11:30 am) and participation in other ministry activities, meetings, and events as needed. Essential Functions Leadership & Discipleship Prepare for and lead weekly youth meetings on Wednesday evenings, including worship, small groups, discussion, games, and service opportunities. Work with volunteer ministers to provide and oversee age-appropriate Sunday School opportunities for middle school and high school youth. Working with the
Family Discipleship Pastor:
o Identify and/or develop age-appropriate curriculum for Wednesday youth meetings and Sunday School. o Recruit, train, encourage, schedule, and support youth ministry volunteers. o Develop and oversee a Youth Ministry Team, meeting at least quarterly or as needed. Oversee opportunities that help students grow in Christian faith, discipleship, leadership, service, and fellowship. Communication & Relationships Establish regular, appropriate communication with youth through face-to-face conversations, phone, text, and social media. Working with the Family Discipleship Pastor, develop and maintain effective communication with youth ministry volunteers, parents, families, and the congregation. Be committed to establishing and nurturing healthy, appropriate relationships with students and their families. Work with the Family Discipleship Pastor to help students transition from children's ministry into youth ministry. Meet with the Family Discipleship Pastor and Senior Pastor as needed, with a minimum of monthly communication or meetings regarding youth ministry. Events, Missions & Fundraising Working with the Family Discipleship Pastor, plan regular youth activities and special events, including summer activities, trips, conferences, outreach events, and other fellowship opportunities. Serve as the point person overseeing the events Develop and oversee appropriate fundraising opportunities to help make youth activities accessible to students and families. Work with church leadership and ministry teams to provide meaningful mission and service opportunities for youth. Administration & Planning Maintain accurate youth contact information and other ministry-related information needed for effective communication and care. Work with the Family Discipleship Pastor, Senior Pastor, and appropriate church leadership to develop an annual youth ministry plan. Assist the Family Discipleship Pastor in preparing and overseeing the annual youth ministry budget so that it reflects the ministry plan and church priorities. o Complete annual ministry planning and budget preparation according to the church's established budget calendar. Maintain appropriate records related to youth events, participation, communication, and ministry needs. Qualifications & Expectations A committed Christian faith and a lifestyle consistent with biblical values and the mission of Westside Community Church. A heart for students and a desire to help youth grow in their relationship with Christ. Ability to lead, organize, communicate, and work cooperatively with students, parents, volunteers, church staff, and church leadership. Dependability, discretion, good judgment, and a commitment to maintaining appropriate boundaries and a safe ministry environment. Willingness to support the overall ministry and mission of Westside Community Church. Other Duties Perform other youth-ministry-related duties as assigned by the Family Discipleship Pastor or Senior Pastor.
