POSITION DUTIES

This position is open for all religious faiths to\r\napply.� The candidate must provide duties in an impartial manner to\r\nsupport all religions represented within the prison's population.\r\nEssential functions of this position include:\r\n\r\n Planning,\r\n developing, monitoring and/or maintaining a program of workshop\r\n activities, study groups, administration of sacraments, holy day\r\n observances, and special programs in order to accommodate inmates'\r\n spiritual needs in accordance with relevant agency directives.\r\n Providing\r\n assistance and guidance by circulating in housing units, setting up\r\n visitation schedules in housing areas and responding to inmate request\r\n slips.\r\n Notifying\r\n inmate population of religious services to facilitate participation by\r\n posting monthly schedules.\r\n Contacting\r\n inmates and their families in order to provide information and counseling\r\n relative(s) to serious illness, injury or death in accordance with agency\r\n directives.\r\n Preparing\r\n reports as required by the Department.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree from an\r\naccredited college or university.\r\n\r\n

Experience:

Two years of ministerial leadership experience following\r\nformal certification, or an acceptable equivalent experience, in that the\r\napplicant has fashioned a firm cleric identity.\r\n\r\n\r\n1.� Additional experience in spiritual counseling or\r\nother chaplaincy professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis\r\nfor the required education.\r\n2.� Additional graduate level education at an\r\naccredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester\r\ncredit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.\r\n3.� Credit may be given for relevant part-time,\r\ntemporary or volunteer experience, if the number of hours worked per week is\r\nlisted.\r\nChaplains must possess current endorsement from\r\na recognized denominational authority.\r\nFor education obtained outside of the United\r\nStates, it is required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as\r\ndetermined by a foreign credential evaluation service.��All\r\ninformation used to determine qualifications must be submitted by the closing\r\ndate including foreign credential evaluations.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

\r\n1.Bachelor's degree in the disciplines of Theology,\r\nReligious Studies, or Sacred Studies from an accredited institute.\r\n2.Two years of ministerial experience working under a\r\ncorrectional setting (or similar setting) with various religious groups.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1.

� Employees who have not already done so must meet\r\nthe required selection Standards.� Selection standards for correctional\r\ntraining are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12/10/09 and\r\ninclude the following:\r\nU.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status\r\nMust be at least 21 years of age\r\nA completed background investigation\r\nOral interview\r\n2.� A degree in the disciplines of theology, religious\r\nstudies, or sacred studies from an accredited institute, seminary or\r\nequivalent.\r\n3.� Candidate must be willing to work with other\r\nreligious groups outside of their own religious faith.\r\n4.� Possess current Ecclesiastical/Religious\r\nendorsement that certifies experience and/or degree requirements that meet the\r\nstandards of the respective Ecclesiastical/Religion's Group.\r\nDPSCS Chaplains must maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the diverse operational and religious needs of the populations we serve.\r\n
