Note:
you do not need to fill out the form) The position of Institutional Chaplain 12 is responsible for organizing, directing and supervising all religious programs and the Volunteer Program for a diverse population at Marquette Branch Prison. At the advanced level, this position serves as the recognized resource for religious services and programming at the facility. The position is responsible to direct and supervise all religious programs for the prisoner population. The Chaplain responsibilities include maintenance of the Chapel's to ensure they are kept in a safe and clean condition: supervision of the porters and clerks, scheduling callouts, coordinating the AA/NA Program, up-dating Operating Procedures as needed to ensure consistency with Policy Directives and security needs, proctoring/instructing a smoking cessation class, providing pastoral care to prisoners and staff, and conducting annual Religious Program evaluations. The Chaplain also serves as the Volunteer Coordinator and is responsible to develop and maintain an active and effective volunteer program which is designed to meet the needs and interests of the prisoner body. The Chaplain maintains relationships with local religious groups and serves as the facility's representative to the Chaplain Advisory Council. Required Education and Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in religion, theology, divinity, or in an area of human services such as guidance and counseling, social work, criminal justice, etc. Experience Three years of professional experience as a religious leader either in a community or institutional setting equivalent to an Institution Chaplain, including one year equivalent to an Institution Chaplain P11. Alternate Education and Experience Possession of an associate's degree in religious studies or an area of human services and two years (4,160 hours) of experience performing religious services such as marriages, burials, baptisms, and any other services unique to the particular faith may be substituted for the education requirement. Additional Requirements and Information Certification or endorsement by the recognized endorsing body of the religious faith. Certain positions may require that only individuals with credentials in a particular religious faith be considered. The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996.
