Job Summary The Youth Leader provides Christ-centered leadership, discipleship, and relational ministry for school aged youth in alignment with NALC core values and Lutheran faith. This role focuses on building relationships with young people, nurturing them in Scripture and prayer, and guiding them toward mature faith in Jesus Christ. The Youth Leader will plan and lead youth gatherings, occasional special events, and support youth involvement in the worship and mission life of the congregation. Duties Faith Formation and Discipleship (3-4 hrs/week)
- Plan and lead youth gatherings, Bible studies, and small-group discussions rooted in Scripture and Lutheran teaching.
- Encourage prayer, worship participation, and spiritual growth among youth.
- Foster a safe, welcoming, Christ-centered environment. Relationship Building & Pastoral Care (2 hrs/week)
- Build authentic, supportive relationships with students and their families.
- Provide encouragement, spiritual support, and age-appropriate pastoral care (referring to the pastor when needed).
- Attend occasional school or community events when possible. Program Planning & Administration (2 hrs/week)
- Develop a monthly schedule of youth activities and communicate regularly with parents and church leadership.
- Maintain attendance records and provide short updates for council or staff meetings.
- Manage the youth ministry budget responsibly. Events & Service Projects (2-3 hrs/week, varies seasonally)
- Plan and participate in special events such as retreats, service projects, mission opportunities, and fellowship activities.
- Engage youth in congregational service, including worship leadership, outreach, and intergenerational ministry. Collaboration with Church Leadership (approx. 1 hr/week)
- Meet regularly with the pastor for prayer, planning, and accountability.
- Coordinate with other ministry leaders to integrate youth into the life of the congregation.
- Support confirmation ministry as needed under pastoral guidance Requirements
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to NALC core values: Christ-centeredness, Mission-driven, Traditionally-grounded, Congregationally-focused .
- Agreement with Lutheran theology and willingness to serve within the NALC framework.
- Experience working with middle and high school youth (paid or volunteer).
- Ability to teach Scripture in an engaging and theologically faithful way.
- Strong communication, organizational, and relational skills.
- Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and follow all church child-safety policies.
- Must pass a background check.
Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 - 15.0 per week
