Job Description
Job description Faith Harbor is looking for a Youth Minister to lead our Middle and High School youth in their Christian journey. Position Description Faith Harbor Youth Minister Overview:
Faith Harbor United Methodist Church (FHUMC) is a growing church. Our Youth Minister must model a commitment to Jesus Christ as well as being committed to the values & vision ofFHUMC:
"A Beacon of Hope in a broken world. We seek to Anchor Our Lives in the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus as Lord. We strive to share God's Love in our daily lives as we reach out in Joyful Service." Areas of Responsibility- There are six categories that make up the Youth Minister's responsibilities: 1
- Prayer
- pray daily for youth, parents, and volunteers
- lead prayer gatherings with youth, parents, and volunteers
- teach youth, parents, and volunteers how to pray 2
- Visitation
- develop relationships with youth, parents, and volunteers by visiting in their homes, schools, extracurricular activities, and various locations
- be at FHUMC church building by 9am Sunday mornings and stay until at least 11am to 1) pay attention to new families that have youth, 2) recruit volunteers, 3) visit with youth & parents
- involve pastors in any situations that would need further attention during visiting.
- at a minimum of four times a year go to the 8am service to lead the prayers of the people
- so that families at that service will get to know you. 3
- Discipleship
- Model to youth, parents, and volunteers a commitment to Jesus Christ through your words, actions, and activities
- Have a mentor that will be an example and a sounding board
- invite youth to participate in the ministry by helping in volunteer positions
- formulate discipleship opportunities for youth to learn from scripture, lessons, fellowship, and mission.
- develop a culture of mentorship
- where older youth mentor younger youth
- volunteers mentor youth
- and where you mentor at least two youth and at least two volunteers. Work with pastors & mentor on how to develop this culture. This is a long-term goal. 4
- Communication
- weekly emails (text messages) about youth activities
- communicate with Secretary about information for weekly Messenger & Bulletin
- communicate with Audio-Visual Coordinator about information for the overhead
- post weekly on the FHUMC Facebook page 5
- Volunteers
- recruit volunteers and organize training them in Safe Sanctuaries.
- discern with volunteers how they would be best suited for the ministry of youth
- coordinate volunteers so that they are utilized effectively in the ministry of youth
- follow-up with volunteers on how their unique calling is being lived out through youth ministry 6
- Ministry coordination
- coordinate Mission outings, Fun outings, and Spiritual outings for youth, parents, and volunteers.
- coordinate youth participating in the life of the broader church
- church work days, worship, volunteer opportunities.
- work with pastor at coordinating confirmation and youth that desire to be baptized
- coordinate with youth council
- coordinate fund-raising opportunities (we would encourage you to limit these to four a year)
- coordinate the gathering of all forms
- be at all staff meetings
Qualifications:
Commitment to Jesus Christ and the Lord's Church. At least 2 years of experience working with youth in a ministry setting. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to build and lead volunteer teams.Job Type:
- Part-time position. We understand that this position can sometimes involve a lot of work
- especially when it comes to out of town trips.
- Once a year you will have a job evaluation done by the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
- It is expected that you participate in continuing education every year.
