Role:
The Chaplain plays a vital role in providing spiritual care and emotional support to patients, their families, and healthcare staff within a healthcare setting. This position is dedicated to addressing the diverse spiritual and emotional needs of individuals facing health challenges, grief, and end-of-life issues. The Chaplain collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to integrate pastoral care into the overall treatment plan, ensuring holistic care. They also develop and lead programs that promote spiritual well-being and resilience among patients and staff. Ultimately, the Chaplain fosters an environment of compassion, respect, and hope, contributing to the healing process and enhancing the quality of life for those served.
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution. Certification or endorsement from a recognized chaplaincy or pastoral care organization. Demonstrated experience in grief counseling, pastoral care, and volunteer management within a healthcare or social assistance environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams. Ability to make independent decisions while adhering to ethical and professional standards. Able to work 32 hours per week and some Sundays.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in psychotherapy or clinical pastoral education (CPE) training. Familiarity with program development and implementation in healthcare settings. Knowledge of diverse religious traditions and cultural competencies. Previous experience working in hospital or hospice chaplaincy. Advanced certification in specialized areas such as trauma counseling or bereavement support.
Responsibilities:
Provide compassionate pastoral counseling and grief support to patients, families, and staff in various healthcare settings. Conduct spiritual assessments and develop individualized care plans that respect diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. Lead and coordinate volunteer programs that support spiritual care services and community outreach. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to integrate spiritual care into patient treatment plans and interdisciplinary meetings. Develop and implement educational programs and workshops focused on spiritual well-being, coping strategies, and ethical decision-making. Respond to crisis situations with appropriate pastoral interventions and provide ongoing emotional support. Maintain accurate documentation of pastoral care activities and ensure confidentiality in all interactions. Exercise independent judgment in making decisions related to patient care and program development.
Skills:
The Chaplain utilizes stewardship skills to responsibly manage resources and volunteer programs that support spiritual care services. Grief counseling and pastoral counseling skills are essential for providing empathetic and effective emotional support to patients and families during difficult times. Volunteer management skills enable the Chaplain to recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers who assist in delivering comprehensive pastoral care. The ability to make independent decisions is critical when responding to urgent spiritual or emotional needs, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions. Program development skills are applied to create educational and support initiatives that enhance the spiritual well-being of the healthcare community.
