Full-time, including regular Sunday responsibilities and occasional evenings/weekends Position Summary The Director of Discipleship provides leadership for Camp Hill UMC's discipleship ministries across generations, helping children, students, and adults grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, connect with one another, discover their gifts, and live out their faith through service and mission. This position serves as a member of the church's core ministry leadership team and works closely with the Lead Pastor and other ministry leaders to create a unified discipleship pathway from childhood through adulthood. The Director of Discipleship directly leads Children's Ministry, provides supervision and support for Student Ministry, and provides leadership for adult discipleship, small groups, missions, and intergenerational ministry.
Primary Responsibilities:
Children's Ministry Leadership (20-hours) Provide direct leadership for Camp Hill Kids while developing systems and volunteer leaders that allow the ministry to grow and become increasingly volunteer-led.
Responsibilities include:
Provide leadership for Sunday morning Camp Hill Kids. Develop and implement a comprehensive discipleship strategy for children from birth through elementary school. Recruit, equip, train, encourage, and support Children's Ministry volunteers. Develop opportunities for parents and families to participate in worship, service, and the broader life of Camp Hill UMC and to practice faith and discipleship at home. Oversee Children's Ministry curriculum and resources. Plan and lead Vacation Bible School and other children's ministry events and programs. Oversee Children's Ministry communication with families and the congregation. Develop and manage the Children's Ministry budget. Maintain healthy systems, policies, and Safe Sanctuary practices that support a safe and welcoming environment for children. Host and create opportunities for families to gather outside of Sunday morning to connect together both inside and outside the church. (i.e. Family Events) Work toward developing a strong team of volunteer leaders who can increasingly share responsibility for the ministry. Provide pastoral care to children, students, and families as appropriate. Student Ministry Leadership & Supervision (5-hours) Provide oversight, encouragement, and support for Student Ministry while allowing the Director of Student Ministries to remain the primary leader of the ministry.

Supervise and provide regular coaching and support to the Director of Student Ministries. Help establish goals and priorities for Student Ministry in alignment with the church's overall discipleship strategy. Attend youth gatherings, events, and other student ministry activities as appropriate to build relationships and support the ministry. Encourage strong volunteer leadership within Student Ministry. Help create intentional connections between Children's Ministry, Student Ministry, and Adult Discipleship. Support Confirmation and other opportunities for students to grow in faith and become connected to the life of the church. Adult Discipleship & Small Groups (10-hours) Provide leadership for opportunities that help adults grow as disciples of Jesus Christ and develop meaningful relationships within the church.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and strengthen a comprehensive adult discipleship strategy. Provide leadership and support for small groups and adult Sunday School. Recruit, equip, train, and encourage small group and adult ministry leaders. Develop and coordinate Bible studies, short-term studies, classes, and other spiritual formation opportunities. Encourage participation in small groups and other communities of spiritual growth. Identify and develop emerging leaders for adult discipleship ministries. Help people take meaningful next steps in their journey of discipleship. Develop opportunities for intergenerational discipleship and relationships across age groups. Work with other ministry leaders to create a clear and connected discipleship pathway from childhood through adulthood. Missions & Service (5-hours) Provide leadership that helps the congregation move from discipleship to service, mission, and engagement with the community.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate opportunities for congregational mission and service. Develop relationships with community organizations and ministry partners. Encourage individuals, families, small groups, and ministry teams to participate in mission. Help integrate mission and service into the church's overall discipleship strategy. Identify opportunities for intergenerational service and mission. Support and oversee congregational mission and outreach initiatives that connect the church with the broader community. Churchwide Leadership & Collaboration Serve as a key member of the Camp Hill UMC ministry leadership team.
Responsibilities include:
Meet regularly with the Lead Pastor for supervision, prayer, planning, and ministry development. Participate in regular staff and core-team meetings. Collaborate with the Lead Pastor and other ministry leaders to establish and implement churchwide discipleship priorities. Promote a unified culture of ministry rather than siloed age-level ministries. Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, parents, and the congregation. Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Pastor. Qualifications may include:
A bachelor's degree in ministry, Christian education, theology, education, or a related field preferred. Candidates currently pursuing a ministry-related degree will be considered. Ordained clergy, deacons, or candidates pursuing ordination will be considered. Equivalent ministry experience and demonstrated leadership may be considered in place of formal education. Experience leading or supervising children's, student, adult, or intergenerational ministry. Experience recruiting, equipping, and developing volunteers. Strong organizational, communication, and relational skills. Ability to build trust and develop healthy relationships with children, students, adults, families, staff, and volunteers. Biblical foundation and theological perspective consistent with the Wesleyan tradition. Demonstrated spiritual maturity and Christian character. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a ministry team. Willingness to participate in worship, evening, and occasional weekend ministry activities.
Pay:
$45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
